Division Two

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Leinster is looking more competitive with Louth, Westmeath, Laois and Longford (despite their poor league campaign) improving over the last few of years, along with the usual contenders Dublin, Wexford, Kildare and Meath (although they're going backwards). Wouldn't be surprised to see a shock or two in Leinster this Summer.

Well done Westmeath. Don't mind ashure. He is very negative on the Galway forum about his own county. And for the record we are going places but it is going to take time. We have a very young squad and i am taking a long terms focus. But for now all congrats to our midland neighbours.

Only having a bit of banter with the Westmeath folk, I wish them all the best. Regards to Galway football, we are in a very bad place at senior level and we don't seem to be making any steps forward, negativity is very much justified.

Div 2

Westmeath now have 8/9 top class footballers they could do very well this summer, Duffy and Heslin in the midfield are a really strong partnership

Well i'm just glad we've survived and are safe. We need to some freaky results to go our way next weekend but if Laois and Derry somehow contrive to lose and we go and beat Armagh then we could sneak 2nd place - considering we've been awful at times that would be a decent but hell, survival was all i was hoping for so even if we finish as we are now that'll do nicely.......Future may not be as bad as feared and with the Green and Red on the horizon soon it's looking a bit brighter....

Lets not get carried away about westmeath. We haven't bet a top team yet this year. It is a great achievement by our lads and they have turned into a fine side but i urge people not to get carried away just yet!

I'd say if any team in leinster will cause Dublin problems it will be Westmeath. Heslin probably best player in any division this year.

I think heslin has scored 2-27 from midfield that is serious

Hes the free taker and penalty taker. What has his position got to do with it?. Cant understand why Westmeath people want to hype the guy up . John will show in his own good time how good he is. Westmeaths displays this year have been a real team effort and John Heslin has made a big contribution to that.

Heslin has been very good, but duffy was better yesteday, when he plays well he is a serious player,as he is such a huge man.Inj fairness Gereag and Kieran Martin have probably been as good if not better than heslin but don't get the recognition as they do not take the frees.Westmeath must have the best half forward line in the country if not.....they are very close

Heslin was actually relatively quiet in the last two games. Lazy journalism to say otherwise. As said above people need to calm down as Westmeath are far from a one man team! Players like Ger Egan and Kieran Martin are massive players. Westmeath would have lost a few games without these two lads. Kevin Maguire is also another jewel. Showing a lot of the attributes of John Keane who was a tremendous servant for Westmeath. Paul Sharry has also played a massive part in this league campaign. All that said Westmeath need to stop hyping up their team.

How much of the 2-27 was from play?

Around 3 points caislean .

I will say that Heslin is a very composed and accurate free taker who doesnt lose his nerve in a tight match which is a big asset in itself.

Strange division, is there really a best team in it? Even Longford could have won a few games and made it more exciting, they are a bit unlucky to be on zero.
Mulholland is doing nice work with Galway and will be a tough outfit in 2014

Grimley wont walk midlu1 whatever happens in either the last game or in the championship.
Whether he continues beyond this season will depend on our championship run and the availability of potential replacements.

Armagh fans, for the most part, realise that we are not the force we were and it will probably take time for a new team to emerge that is capable of competing at the highest level.

What odds would I have got on Westmeath to be promoted at the start of the year? No one really seen it coming, I've decided not to be so pessimistic in regards to my own county and hope Westmeath can beat Derry and Laois lose to Wexford while we go up to Armagh and win.
