Would fancy Laois and Galway to get promotion.

I have no faith that this Galway team will be promoted. I would be happy if they manage to avoid relegation, but only time will tell.

I expect Louth to lose every game. Galway will fail again. Longford could do well. Laois are over rated also.

Laois, Galway and Armagh would stand out as potential promotion candidates.

But I think Derry will contend for promotion, despite a very poor 2012. Brian McIver has brought in a very strong back team, and we should see a much better league campaign from Derry this term. They looked formidable in 2011 losing an Ulster final to Donegal, and then losing to Kildare by 6 points six days later in Croke Park.
2012 was a non starter, with a poor enough league campaign and no championship wins. There is enough talent in the county, but maybe not the commitment or belief. Brian brings a strict professional type regime to the squad, and a good league campaign could maybe ignite a flame in the players.

Great to see meehan back for galway, and looking to be match fit. If he stays that way he could give galway an outlet. Looking forward to see the battle between himself and ger cafferkey in a few months time.

Have to say i was worried about Derry going into the game - 1st match of the league and Derry aren't a bad side but fair play to the lads. A wins a win and it gets the league season up and running. Brilliant to see Meehan relatively injury-free. Could bode well for the summer.

Tough game at the weekend though against Louth. They'll be intent on getting a win under the belt after what seemed to be a bit of a war against Westmeath. Onwards and upwards though.

Have to echo the above. Great to see Meehan back doing what he does best, putting the ball over the bar. He's a class act!

The pitch yesterday in Salthill was awful, made for an ugly game- Galway deserved winners. Derry were poor.

As much as id like to see Galway go up, I think with the current avg age of the squad that another year in div. 2 will be no harm. Was in at the game yesterday and no offence to the Derry lads (was sittin beside a few of yer supporters - sound people) but thought the they were badly organisied (que Pot/Kettle/Black).

Why all the cards in Mullingar yesterday..........18 yellows in a clean game and one straight red which was correct............... i thought the accessors were done away with and the referees dont have to please the boxtickers any more and can referee with a small bit of common sense......no it seems

Any team that lost yesterday will have to pick up points this coming week-end. Westmeath come to Pearse Park for local derby. Longford should have got some think from the Wexford game. But that is the problem for the weaker teams if a few players are out they just have not got the replacements.

Great win for Westmeath to relieve a bit of relegation pressure, would be in trouble if they lost yesterday, Louth look in trouble now

Only one game gone so it's way too early to call, any two counties could still be promoted and any two could get relegated.

Kildare lost their two opening games in division 2 last year and then went on to win the division outright.

Meath won their first two games and then went on to lose the remaining five, they got relegated on the last day when all they had to do was turn up to put Louth down.

Derry only won two games from seven yet they survived.

A lot of football yet to be played so there'll be plenty of twists & turns in this division before it's over.

I'm only saying that it was a winnable game for Louth and because they lost they could go down, not a lot of teams the likes of Westmeath or Louth will beat in the division

Division 2 is weaker this year then last year. Tyrone, Kildare, Monaghan and Meath in my opinion are stronger then Armagh, Laois, Wexford and Longford. Louth still have 4 home games this year ( Galway, Derry, Longford and Wexford ). Win 3 of them and it should be enough to stay up. Fingers crossed.
