Delighted to see Kildare doing well
Really looking forward to our match in Croke Park
Again hats off to Kildare for giving up home advantages. I know they made a few bob out of it and fair play - why not?
But they also gave away home advantage in their first year back in Div 1
The spring series has given a new lease of life to the league
and advertises our games on a far bigger scale at this time of year
Kildare played a bit part in making it happen and of course Dublin have spear headed this series from the off set
so fair play to the Kildare CB and credit when it's due.

Master - that's twice I've read it's a fortunate it really wasn't - the timing was fortunate that's all. The Irish News today captures it perfectly Keith Higgins with both hands on Mark Donnellys back his body goes one way the ball the other and then the goalkeepers momentum took him through Donnelly also. You will not see a clearer penalty all year.

Def a peno. Keeper led with his two feet extended and caught the man

Also he was fouled from behind

It was a double whammy of a peno.

Tyronetim, was there a picture in the irish news? Because all I can recall higgins doing is getting a hand to the ball before he kicked it, which was why, in my opinion the ball skipped off his foot and away to the side. Also, I dont think you can say the keeper fouled him. He spread himself to save the shot and they collided after the shot had been taken. If that is the case then you could say the attacker ran into the goalkeeper just as much as the other way around! Either way, there is no point getting bogged down in it.Hopefully the weather improves and we can give the dubs another hiding at home in a few weeks time...

Belzedub called it right Mark Donnelly was pushed - the hands are on his back and the keeper followed out and fouled the man who at that stage had lost the ball. very clear - unfortunate timing but clear penalty.
Deegan seen it clearly and then went and asked his umpires giving the timing of it. The umpires are both in crouched position perfectly placed.

omaghredhand doesnt seem to think so tyronetim. I actually just watched it back and he had actually taken his shot before colliding with the keeper, and before higgins touched him at all. So this 'push in the back' bit is a bit much... If you are going to call it, call it straight...

Re the two Mayo frees near the end. Yeah the first was ridiculously soft but for the second, the Tyrone man had hands on Doherty well before he got the ball. Definite free. Also the time added after the pen was correct as Deegan took an age doing nothing between awarding the pen and allowing it be taken. He was a shambles for wasting time yesterday.

master without wishing to blow my own trumpet I'm a straight shooter..unfortunatley you have a scotoma for certain things e.g. selecting one part of omaghredhands view and dismiising all others that don't support your analysis.
Omagh is entitled to his view - I disagree. The picture i'm referring to shows Mark Donnelly's contorted body and keith higgin's with his his hand on his hip and his shoulder.
I was at the game and travelled back and watched it on TG4 if you have the same view as me on TV you need an ability to zoom. The best view available is the photo in today's paper or the umpires view. If Mark Donnelly missed of his own volition then he was aiming at the corner flag.
As a forward particularly at that stage of the game every instinct is to shoot certainly not to fall over and look for a penalty which given the endeavours of Ger Cafferkey and a sizeable element of the crowd was going to be very difficult.

Bennybunny I agree Cork didn't seem to have any plan on Saturday night, it must be frustrating following them. I don't understand why they indulge in so much lateral and reverse passing. They showed with their goal what they can do when they take on a defence but they only did it once or twice during the game. I wouldn't mind but ye have some very good forwards. From my point of course I was glad ye didn't take us on more often!!

Indeed it looks like the most interesting div one in many a year, both kildare and Tyrone were expected to go down, now it looks like both will be in semis while two of cork kerry and down will get relegated, interesting times ahead

How much did you end up putting on us going down?

Hopefully it didn't cost you as much as including Donegal in your accumulator for the opening weekend...

Winning league games whilst fielding a team made up of new players it's all going to plan nicely. The master being brought back to reality by Tyrone topped off a great weekend. Can't see the Mayo forwards having enough to win anything this year Moran still their only top class forward thought Horan would be trying to unearth another but can't see one as yet, they have a great midfield tho. Kerry in transition lack depth and over dependent on individuals happens every county at some time or other. Tyrone and Donegal are in second gear, Cork seem in disarray under current management, Kildare the surprise exciting package so far playing great honest football.

Tyronetim, you say I am dismissing what everyone is saying, are you not doing the same? May I ask, where was the ball in this picture? Already gone past the post perhaps? The fact is he took the shot before he collided with the keeper and before higgins got a hand on him. The shot had been taken. Obviously there is going to be a collision afterwards. Why do we have to go off this still image alone? Surely the live play is the best thing to go off?

A great trip to Castlebar yesterday and a result that I never expected. Tyrone moved it up a gear from the Down game, but still have a bit to go. Mayo were a shadow of the team that I watched against Kerry last week, but we'll not worry about them. Still room for improvement in the Tyrone performance, so no need to get carried away. Defensively we looked better, and a big part of that came from the half forwards being willing to work hard and get back to help. A few places still up for grabs over the next 3 weeks before Donegal come knocking, but we're two points better off than what I had hoped for.

First time in McHale Park yesterday. Just me or is the pitch massive? And that's a fine stand ye have put up, must have cost a few €!

Its funny you mention the pitch. I found that when we played there in the last few years the pitch was like a sand dune. No excuses though .. Just feel the pitch is rubbish.

is this guy the Master for real?...donnelly was pushed, and clarke led with 2 feet...making no attempt to play the ball...the referee is not entitled to add on time because he uses up time making a decision...the full time whistle should have been blown when the penalty ended up in the back of the net. at that satge we had played 3 mins and 30 secs of the alloted 3 mins...deegan then did his best to get mayo an equalising point playing a further 90 secs...complete inconsistency in his decisions, and holding up the play needlessly...

When the 3 minutes is announced do people not hear the "at least" bit?? What don't people understand about it? Some people seem to think the whistle should go as soon as the 3 minutes is up regardless of what happens in those three minutes. If there are more stoppages in added time, then more time must be added, it's not rocket science. By your reckoning the whistle should have gone before the penalty was taken!!!

It grieves me to say so but you do have my sympathy:
If your relying on this I would have to agree with you the contact was incidental as the keeper had long made his save by the time he collided with the Tyrone player. Can't see from this angle if the Mayo player shoved the Tyrone one I have to assume those closer had a better view.
