Dublin have massive advantages over other counties

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The last time Dublin played a Leinster championship match outside Croker was in Longford in 2006. There was 15,000 at the match and 12,000 where Dubs. They just scraped by Longford. The last time that they lost a Leinster championship game outside of Croker was in 1973 in Navan against Louth.

I know it was suggested before that Dublin be split into North Dublin and South Dublin. It would definitely give a lot more people the opportunity to play to play intercounty and I think it would make make the Lenister championship more interesting definitely in football.

Total non starter. Why can't people leave well enough alone. Dublin are one of the big draws in the GAA & splitting them up would be a desperate thing to do.

So you'll have two Dublin teams dominating Leinster instead of one, good call!

Indeed Dublin do have an advantage over other counties.

Perhaps everybody else should be allowed use PED's to level the playing the field somewhat.

Dublin is the biggest county population wise so obviously they will generate the most money, but you will find they also have to pay out the most money. Is there a list of all counties income v expenditure for last year, to see who is making money and who is losing money. I believe a lot of cash generation will be due to have the right people in place on county boards.

Being more than a bit selective there aren't you? Why not put your original post up for me to have a look at. Mind you if memory serves me right I am not a bit surprised you don't want to put it up as it wasn't your finest hour.
As for Muckhead, that does not do you any great favours either as it show all the signs of a bitter little man!!

I'm not a big fan of moaning Athboygael, fact of the matter is that our previous county board had been a joke for many years I'm delighted to see a good few of them have been rooted out. Now lets stop peering over the fence at the neighbours and complaining, we should be getting our own act together, that's the only way we're going to have a chance of regaining dominance in Leinster and hopefully challenge for top honours in the future. As for playing Dublin in Croker, well if you have any balls at all that shouldn't be a problem!

Hahaha sorry I didn't realise I left out 'Ross', you know me pal I'm not great at the auld spelling. Everything I say about Donegal I believe is 100% right.

What were you saying about spelling corrections last week clondalkin?! ;)

I can't see anyone stopping the Dubs this year, at least not in Leinster.
With regard to Meath.... Karma has been spanking them for a while now,
and probably for a while to come!

Ah I don't buy that karma lark Gatekeeper, sure nobody thought we'd have any luck back in 96 when we roughed up a few nordie fairies and we won Sam a few weeks later.

I actually think a lot of people posting on this realise that population size and percieved extra money guarantees you nothing as Dublin have shown with 2 allirelands since 1995. Its good coaching structures ,having your head in the right place and a bit of effort on the respective boards to get money in that gives you a competitive edge. Dublin over the last few years are flying at under age(mainly because of coaching structures put in place, granted money is needed for that, but money and population alone guarantee you nothing) if that means winning alot more at senior level who knows. there is alot more money needed in keeping teams going through the allireland in hurling and football when your underage is doing well also so it can be a double edged sword.
There is no doubt that we have advantages over smaller counties as a starting point,we have advantages playing in croker for early matches in championship, we have had disadvantages through our own making of players thinking they had made it once they put on a DUB JERSEY a few wins in croker (players limitations not really exposed)built up by the media to the delight of the stronger counties and then get found out when its too late in croke park. some matches we won in croker we might of lost them or scraped through if they were played at oppositions ground, which would of meant finding out earlier where we were at and a realisation we were not that good, or what improvements were needed.
Playing in croker in early rounds i believe gives us a great chance every year of winning leinster, But can hinder us in winning Sam. Id prefer away matches bar leinster final.

it matters more so in being regularly competitive population does..reason i bring it up a lot is my own county generally struggles due to having such a small population and therefore an extremely small pick of players

God dammit, change the record, can we have some creativity as opposed to bitching? And the same ol' bitching at that!

That cuts both ways. Most of Kildare, Meath, Carlow, Louth, Cavan, Wicklow & Westmeath are refugee Dubs.
