Dublin have massive advantages over other counties

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Afraid to say that Dublin are just going to pull away from all other teams in Leinster more and more as the years go by. If you compare like for like, it is not a fair playing field.
1. Dublin can generate major revenue by playing league matches in Croke Park which they claim (when it suits) that it is a neutral venue, they then plough this cash into juvenile development teams which quite frankly other counties just cannot do, thus making the current gap in juvenile football grade to be massive.
2. Major sponsorship deal with vodafone, how many other counties can claim to have blue chip clients as sponsors - look at Kildare Brady's ham (hardly a well known sponsor)
3. Croke Park home for all champioship matches, particulary having the full Hill is just a massive advantage, look at my own county Meath, I can't remember the last home championship Leinster game we had. The same goes for many other counties.

This is not sour grapes on my side, I am just calling a spade a spade, Dublin football is going to dominate for a long period and something needs to be done to help other counties as it's not a fair playing field the way it is setup currently.

The cash from (for example) the Spring Series doesn't go to Dublin's coffer's. The Vodafone sponsorship is indeed a lucrative one, but it needs to be, given the sheer size of Dublin GAA. But most of the larger Dublin clubs are self-financing as indeed are a lot of the Dublin Juvenile development squads, each generate their own funding - with minmal subsidy. From Minor up its different but it has to be, just look at the amount of teams they have - not to mention Hurling.

That said, I take your point, if Dublin get onto a run of achievement they'll be very hard to shift, given the strenght coming through, but they are not nearly there yet. Long term it could be a problem, but I think you'll have to agree its not a problem right now.

ONE All Ireland in 20 years doesnt seem like domination. Meath have 4 in last 25. Stop feeling sorry for yourselves.

Im not so sure playing in Croker all the time is a distinct advantage. I believe the Dubs would find out more about themselves if they had to play on the road more often. Croke Park gives them a false sense of security and hence they are found wanting at key moments. As Keelman says, 1 AI in 20 years is hardly domination.
At the end of the day it comes down to ability not surroundings.

Dublin have a lot of supporters. Parnell Park is to small for most Dublin home league and championship games. Croke Park is in Dublin. Croke Park is a GAA stadium. So the problem is, the county's home ground is too small and there is a stadium down the road that is big enough and nobody is using it? What to do?

you would expect them to ascert their various advantages soon enough yes and begin to dominate...the large population they have and the fact that dublin is a miles bigger urban area than anywhere else in the country means if they get things right underage they will have floods of talent coming through

Boohoo, boohoo.

We got a decent underage set up and good revenue streams in the county. I fail to see what your problem is. Get youssir own house in order maybe?

And who says we're going to dominate? No way of knowing that.

I know Im from the north and that but I was under the impression that Dublin has been bigger and more populated than other parts of Ireland for many years....... Im sure that they like everyone else will strive to be the best regardless

Listen your right we do have a big advantage and at last we have our underage structure in order, but in nearly every sport played all over the world there is a team with a much bigger advantage than everyone else it's just the way it goes. I like the way one poster says in the last 20 years Dublin have been in 1 final but in the last 25 years Meath have been 4 haha very selective,we have been in 4 aswell if you had of said 25 years. Plus the all ireland finals of 07 and 10 were Dublin v Kerry and Dublin v Cork it just happened to happen in the semi final but everyone knows they were the real finals of them years.

An Mhí have serious money difficulties at the moment for one reason or other. It wasn;t always like this. You are right. They shoud get their own house in order before commenting on others and trying to draw negative attention on others.

AthboyGael - has Meath not benefited from the Dublin population explosion of the past 15 years? Sure Meath is a suburb of Dublin at this stage. Ye should be all amalgamated - greater dublin! ;)

I'm pretty sure the poster was commenting on all Ireland's that were won as opposed to all Irelands contested.which makes 2 for dublin over the past 25 years.still validates the point made.if we were to just count all Ireland appearances then mayo would be right up there but as Ricky Bobby said "if you ain't first, you're last!!

I know it was suggested before that Dublin be split into North Dublin and South Dublin. It would definitely give a lot more people the opportunity to play to play intercounty and I think it would make make the Lenister championship more interesting definitely in football.

Never will that happen.
Or should it be allowed to happen.
A notion put forward by country people.

Why dont we split up Kilkenny or Kerry or Cork while we're at it
Counties with far more success than Dublin
Never will it happen. Because we wont allow it to happen
