Well on my old thread entitled 'Stories, history, myth, legend from your area' I outlined the famous Lucan story to you all of how the 'Lillywhites' got their jerseys from us!

Didn't know you were a Clane man Snuff.

So does this mean all the true blue Dub stuff you come out with is all just an act of bravado to help you fit in with locals?

After all that is where Kildare got their jerseys from, unless your implying you went to Clongowes Wood College way, way, way back in the day.

A closet culchie, who would have thought it...

Your mention of how Offaly got the Tricolour ----- I heard a different story: Tullamore Club used them and then the County (possibly because T were Champions?)

Have you anything that helps clear the mystery ?

The first poster is wrong about the traditional Donegal jersey being one with a green and gold band. When Donegal won their first Ulster title in 1972 they wore a gold jersey.

Have you anything that helps clear the mystery ? I believe that Keeper7 is correct. Offaly won a tournament to earn the right to pick their county colours.

RE Mayo 1951, I am sure the "Connacht" colours thing is a myth. If ye read The Road to 51 (great, great read by the way) it says that the kits were actually a present to the team from the Co board. Not sure how much sense that makes! The kits had crests on the with "M", for Mayo, naturally! They wore red socks with those kits, so they weren't Conancht kits. Just an alternative kit they could use against Meath!

I'm pretty sure they wore green and red 99% of the time in the immediate aftermath, team pics from league campaigns following that would suggest so anyways!

And above, someone posted about M Moran and Morrison changing Sligo's kits, that's incorrect, Sligo had worn all black well before their arrival. And To be honest, the all black kits look far better in my opinion!

Everybody wore white shorts until Down changed to black in the 60s to great outrage.

Sligo only changed their kit because of the clash with Kildare in 2001. They kept the black jerseys thereafter because they felt they were lucky (as far as i remember, the Kildare match was the first championship win at croker for us, 2001 and 2002 proved to be memorable years for us in croker) and they simply looked better than the white jerseys

Leitrim traditionally had a gold hoop. Changed when the sponsorship came in to green with yellow trim.

Laois won the first NFL in 1926 and wore back and amber hooped jerseys.
Not sure when we changed to blue and white.

hurling dub, i think we have our wires crossed here :)
What I am saying is that the reason we changed from light blue and white to light blue and navy is because of a washing malfunction :) The Navy came about as a result of Mrs Grey's navy knickers!!
You seem to be talking about the royal blue (ala Everton jerseys) we wore back when my ol grandfather was a spermicide!!!

Dont know if anyone else answered Offaly Bigball. But In 1968 when Longford won their only Leinster they wore the Meath jerseys. They beat Meath in the semi final and played Laois in the final so I think it was a toss of a coin but Longford had to change. Great days.

As far as I know Westmeath used to have green and white hooped jerseys way back when.
Don't know why we changed. Also in 2005 we had a white strip going down the middle of the jersey with the sponsor written in orange.
