There is hardly anyone who has won more medals with their club than Oisín McConville has with Crossmaglen Rangers? gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 03/12/2012 14:03:02 1305747 Link 0 |
Add his county awards and I'd say he would be up there with most medals of all time gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 03/12/2012 14:21:52 1305764 Link 0 |
yes gaelicgab he is the most decorated club player ever, he also holds the record for the most consecutive starts at club level and the most consecutive games scored at club level, he's 37 and he's still like a spring chicken about cross. The McConville family live and breathe GAA and his mother would think nothing of jumping in a car of a sunday and head a hundred mile to watch a match! Its phenomenal what he has won. Also he rarely misses a game for Cross. His closest rival for club honours is probably his team mate Paul Hearty. Oisin has more medals as Paul missed 1997 Ulster and All-Ireland due to a serious injury I think. Grey_Wolf (Leitrim) - Posts: 236 - 03/12/2012 14:27:50 1305771 Link 0 |
rumors down here is that he will be linking up with geezer again as forwards coach when cross are finished their campaign, anyone know more about it? lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 03/12/2012 14:33:27 1305778 Link 0 |

He won't be going to Kildare, Hearty has the same amount of medals, just he didn't start the 1996 Ulster and the 97 AI Final RangerDanger (Armagh) - Posts: 101 - 03/12/2012 14:49:14 1305794 Link 0 |

He is top scorer in Ulster championship football too with Armagh 11-197 or 230 points in his career. Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 03/12/2012 15:11:03 1305808 Link 0 |

Can you imagine if he was still playing for Armagh??? Still has the legs for it in my opinion! MissDownFanatic (Down) - Posts: 411 - 03/12/2012 21:22:23 1306125 Link 0 |
Its guys like Oisin that make you want to tell people outside Ireland about your national sport and then point to players like him and say what they have achieved in the game through dedication and skill. AthCliath (Dublin) - Posts: 4347 - 03/12/2012 21:26:24 1306127 Link 0 |
As well as a great player he is a fantastic rolemodel..Anyone who has read his book will know what he has overcome and its great to see him helping other people in that position now..Ona bit of a different subject does anyone know of any other players with more county medals? juniorbsub (Wexford) - Posts: 646 - 03/12/2012 21:27:55 1306128 Link 0 |
He spends hours and hours training young players and helping out at the club, he is a fine example of the selfless GAA we all know and love. Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 04/12/2012 09:32:02 1306171 Link 0 |
Well according to the kildare Home page Oisín may be ratified as a Kildare selector later in the week. lilywhite1 (Kildare) - Posts: 3036 - 04/12/2012 18:39:56 1306464 Link 0 |
I don't know how many club medals Oisin has at all levels and don't care to count because I would be at it all day. He is a very busy guy in the world of GAA, lets not forget that during Armagh's successful years he would have played football all year round with club and county and on top of that he had to deal with a gambling addiction. Oisin McConville manages DKIT I think? Also still involved with Cross, he wouldn't be able to give a huge amount of time to Kildare, but he would still be a help. What Kildare need is to give young players a chance. ClassApart (Meath) - Posts: 1200 - 04/12/2012 21:36:56 1306601 Link 0 |
