I have to ask what the fellows in theUSA are doing to promote the game. All that these fellows want is to build a team in Boston N York or Phillie that will won the championship Take in players each year from Ireland (and that was happening when times were good in Ireland) that Clubs trained from underage. As the former Antrim manager was he Paddy Bradley to quote him " THe cancer of the American transfers has to be stopped." Ho w many of the Usa teams has underage teams. I understand that several footballers and some from Cavan got very big money to play in the USA this summer past. Not that long ago we lost 4 County players while we were still in the clubs. Did the money bags in the USA care about Cavan's exit???? I say play our League final in Croke park and leave the semi professional outfits in the states to it.

1302577 yeah the head being a rugby man doesnt exactly help..you need to get over the brits lad its in the past move on...what are irish people ashamed of culann?...how has a discussion on gaa being shown abroad and putting a match abroad turned into a discussion about how irish people are ashamed?..your entitled to your opinions lads but its hilarious listening to the two of you....why are you so against irish emigrants being able to view the gaa abroad hill?..have you no family living outside this country due to lack of work?..like i said sky showed gaa highlights in the past i am happy for the game to grow maybe you prefer ireland and the gaa to be isolationist i dont as its not the 1930s anymore...you really dont seem to like american and british cultures do you hill?..its great to see the gaa growing in mainland europe
you say need to get over the brits its in the past but nobody said that to the americans when they kept after and still have a thing against iraq and afghanistan. i am not against irish emigrants being able to view gaa abroad i just dont think it should come at the expense of the die hard supporters who go to the matches to follwo their team all year.i have family living outside this country but thats their choice they left ireland so you cannot expect to move to another country and have everything the same as you had here nobody forces you to leave its their own choice so you cant bring ireland with you to a new country. no the gaa is an irish sport irish tradition if it went to grow and become worldwide it would be taken over by bigger money countries and would turn pro and become a money huisness like soccer where as its passion and everything thats good about it would be lost,i dont feel the need for americans and other countries to want to play the game and watch it what good does that do for me i already enjoy it what would make it better for you if went global? no i dont have a problem with american and british cultures as they are exactly for americans and british people, what i have a problem with is people disrespecting irish culture when they are from here and then when the olympics or world cup comes around these same people wrap themselves in a tri colour and proclaim to be more irish then ever.

1302618 i never realised irish people were ashamed of the gaa..what language are you speaking on here culann?..plenty of people like irish traditional music your not a fan of all this new music culann no?..its called globalization culann people can watch or get into stuff which could be from any part of the world..people arent all going to like the same things...how is this relevant to the thread though?..thats what i find funny..in your opinion we are a mini britain/america...i hope you realise people do this all over the world and listen or follow things which are not their own so its not exactly as if the irish are the only ones
i dont think they are ashamed but i feel they have an inferiority complex towards other sports like yourself and others who feel its a step up in your sporting life to go to aussie rules or soccer or rugby after playing gaa.on the music thing ffgg you surely dont believe that one direction are the best band just becuase they have sold millions its all down to promotion and media hype compare them to bands who wrote performed and did everything themselves and played all types of instruments but dont get the media attention that they do.this is my point its down to what the bigger medias promote which in turn influences people in all countrys of what they think is good.

as with most people involved in the GAA outside of Ireland we are intensely proud of being Irish and playing our national games, we also try and explain to people about the sports and how we have two of the best sports in the world to play and to watch. The main thing that the GAA fan abroad wants is ease of access to watch the games live. In the UK you have to sign up for Premier Sports to watch the games live, which means you usually have to have Sky or Virgin etc to watch. Also we are unable to watch most GAA related programmes on RTE Player as they are blocked to people living outside Ireland. (in fact anything decent on RTE is blocked to International viewers). Rather than subscribe to Premier Sports most people I know will head down the local pub to watch games. Don't think to many fans abroad are too fussed about where the league final etc are based, just being able to view it etc is the main thing. The annoying thing I find is that some pubs that claim to be Irish show soccer etc ahead of GAA.

i dont feel its a step up to go to another sport but i dont regard it as a step down either...i just dont hold anything against them for leaving the gaa..i just want the sport to grow worldwide it will never get like soccer hill no sport will ireland isnt that influential or that big as no sport touches soccer in terms of popularity worldwide so i think your overreacting a fair bit..how is us and the brits the same as the americans and afghanistan?..we are independent close to a century at this stage that happened only recently and is a totally different situation..there isnt a whole lot of die hards going to league games so spare me the hard luck story its a very small minority and league matches are not the be all and end all..i would have a major issue with it if it was championship...i dont want ireland or the gaa to be isolationist...how are irish people disrespecting irish culture they just like different things its hardly disrespect...im not exactly a fan of one direction no but they are better then some of the other absolute rubbish out there at the moment.where did i say they were any good?....im not into that sort of music so i dont really understand all that much why you are saying that to me...im not asking emigrants to be put over those at home how is wanting the gaa to be available for irish living abroad to watch on tv being at the expense of others inform me?

many here and in the media promote the guys leaving as a massive step up in their carrears.what benifit do you get from the gaa going worldwide i dont see whats to gain you already have the top teams playing within travelling distance in the sport so whats to gain from a person who already supports the sport if somebody in china america britain or malaysia is watching it? both us and america had to deal with terrorism.that happened over 10 years ago in new york and compared to the 700 hundred years we suffered the amount of people who died in 9/11 is only a frcation of what died here as a result of terrorism. just becuase you dont go to league games or care about there is die hards in every county who go to o byrne cup or their own countys equivalent to league matches home and away and then championship matches so you feel its more important and do not have any cares about them who are the real supporters of gaa but feel so strongly that emigrants deserve to see it thats madness.but there already is a championship match played there and it is a team representing new york and they locals dont bother with it theres no demand.the only reason people like these american and british cultural things is becuase they are being promoted as cool in the media her and our own are looked down on as crap.it was apoint im making along with justin bieber of how the media can make somebody or somthing an over night success without there actually being any real talent there to merit this.you want the final to be for emigrants in america over the real supporters who will attend all the actual league matches so thats putting them over us.

i go to league games and o byrne cup games so what are you on about?..i just feel they matter little compared to the championship is all and there is a very small number of diehards...more players more teams better overall competition whats to gain from remaining isolationist?....what has 9/11 got to do with us?..you are making no sense......i dont have an opinion really on the league being put on over there its not exactly a big deal missing one league game considering there is such poor attendences anyway and most who go to the finals were not as the other games in the league all year...well these fellas like bieber and them are quite talented its just you dont see it that way..they obviously can sing and that music just seems to be popular please stop going on about the media its getting tired at this stage people can think for themselves...you never stated where irish people showed disrespect....im not exactly pushing for the final over there but i dont mind if it is put over there either...iv seen my county play in 2 league finals in a row i felt very little after we won both and most people did not especially after we underperformed in the championship both seasons...i just want the gaa to be available on foreign tv channels...are you against non irish playing gaa hill?

you said you couldnt care about the die hards that you didnt want to hear a sob story for them well there is plenty of diehards and they exist in all countys. that we have the sport we love kept played in the right spirit and not for money which is what would happen if we had it worldwide. you know what it has to do with us i explained it above and you are just playing dumb on the whole aspect of it.not poor attendances in dublin and what does that matter sure there will be poor attendance if played in america, if longford made the final you would rather a load of people who didnt go to all the matches get to see them play in a final over you?hahahahahaha come on would you bieber quite talented the kid is barely out of nappies.why becuase i make sense about the media you want me to stop? its a fact of life.im sure theres plenty in longford cared just becuase you dont view it that way maybe if the media got behind it more your opinion would cange haha.why thogh whats the whole fascination for you of gaa being available on foreign channels? what kick do yoy get out of that? no i couldnt care if they play or dont play im more concerned about gaa here as thats where the teams i support and play for are.

Look lads it's quite simple really.
If you like Justin Bieber and don't speak as Gaeilge 24/7 then you're ashamed of being Irish.
If you think the idea of possibly playing a league final in New York is a good one then you obviously also believe 9/11 was a government conspiracy.
That's what I'm taking from it anyways...

thats why they are die hards like in any sport.you know full well i was relating to the terrorism encountered here from british army and the terrorism encountered in america i was showing how much more publicity 9/11 got and sympathy in comparison to us who recieved a far worse form.all competitions matter to me thats where we differ.haha whatever pal it dont make sense becuase you not able to understand the concept maybe in a few years you might.its already the biggest sport in the country its played so its already popular, hahahahahaha you ask me do i think ireland should have joined the EU while having a go at me for things not relating to the thread haha your unreal pal.why becuase it happens in soccer seriously your obsession with the gaa morphing into other sports is beyond belief we dont have to copy them to be successful.

we should leave this discussion...it has gone totally off topic and we are not going to agree with one another...your going on about terrorism from the british army in ireland or northern ireland?and you compare it to 9/11?...where is the connection?!...well done the gaa is the biggest sport in ireland i never realised that..you gave out about the gaa standing still a few weeks ago now you want it to stand still and stay in a small country without even trying to expand..very forward thinking that is

its amazing how small-minded and insular some posters on here are. maybe they should go abroad for a while. there are not many things ireland are good at and not many uniquely irish things that we can be proud of. one of them is gaelic games another is traditional irish music. these are things which we can truely be proud of. anyway getting back to the league final being played in New York. why not , it would be a great occasion and give all the GAA folk a chance to see a major final. also don't kid yourself, plenty of people from ireland would make the trip over. i went over in 1997 for a league game played between Cavan and Kerry. It was played in Downing stadium, Randalls Island. wonderful weekend and great occasion. I think this stadium has since been pulled down and a brand new complex built upon the site so don't know if it would be an option again.

fine if you want to leave it. they bought were acts of terroirsm here and 9/11 whats not to get man.well you learn something new every day dont you.haha oh you just take the biscuit standing still as in not promoting the game to its ACTUAL SUPPORTERS IN THE COUNTRY ITS ACTUALY PLAYED.its an irish sport played by irish people how is it standing still by staying irish, your really like alittle lost puppy needeing apat on the head your so far needing anything to be good means it has to be worldwide or at least acknowledged by america or britian who cares if they like it or dont its irish sport we dont need them to like it or for it to go worldwide its been a brilliant sport for over 125 years now and will continue to be regardless of if other countrys take an interest or not,you have the top teams playing in the same country as you you can attend any game whats not to love about that.
