i think your issue in relation to the language question should be more with those who decided to stop teaching it instead of irish people now
ffgg , 25/11/2012 at 19:09

What are you on about man. If Irish people deep down wanted to learn their language they would. They just don't. Sad reality.

i never realised to call myself irish i had to listen to ballad music watch irish shows and various other things..i am very comfortable about my difference to an english person as they are with me..sure we share some things in common as we are after all quite a similar people if you look at history but there is plenty of subtle differences as there is with all nations...ask an austrian about the differences between him and a german

eh culann do you not ever wonder why the irish language declined??..surely it is them you should have an issue with and the domino effect it had on our language instead of taking shots at irish people now who are only suffering the effects of this just because u decided to take irish more seriously than others

again dismissing points i asked you about the difference between americans and british spanish and south americans brazillain and portugese answer me?...its not just language..ireland and britain are different countries its not just about language...whats the difference between any people if you are going to discount people spending their whole lives in one country as the most blatant difference...irish slang obviously another one ..you tell me the difference?...gaa obviously is one very notable example...its called globalization again wake up...whats this about trying to be more irish than others and dismiss others as being less irish?
ffgg , 25/11/2012 at 19:19

Absolute waffle. Is that the best you can come up with? My point original point in the form of a question has benn proven

whats this about trying to be more irish than others and dismiss others as being less irish?

Bulls. Just highlighting facts. People are entitled to be as Irish as they want. Thats up to any individual person.

You just cannot tell how you are different. Thats all.

..sure we share some things in common as we are after all quite a similar people if you look at history

We are similar now but look back it time you will see that we were not similiar at all. Thats the point I am making here.

The British were responsible for the decline of the languge up until about 1900. It has been in our own hands since. I have never once taken Irish seriously. How can you take a language seriously?

Lack of interest in my own culture? Because I want to promote the GAA to the world? Globalisation is real my friend, best way to protect what's ours is to share it with the world.

The politics was more a dig at the mods than you.

u tell me differences culann you are great at dismissing others?..listening to irish ballad music over british or american music doesnt make us different to them....we have our own sport.our own cities and countryside and way of life....notorious irish weather of course although very similar to the british weather....religion used to be one of the bigger differences as the stereotype was we were catholic they were protestant or anglican but religions role has declined a great deal in recent times do you have an issue with this?...again stop avoiding the questions i ask you compare americans and british tell me the difference

No I am just stating factually here that Irish people have more in common with British and American culture as they do with there own. Stop taking this personally. You are no different than the majority of this island. By taking it personally you are not taking other parts of this discussion into consideration when answering and trhat is bringing down the standard of debate.

yeah im being attacked on here for wanting the gaa to increase abroad imagine being attacked for wanting to promote irish culture!...well in school i mean culann as english is the main language spoken in most homes in ireland....maybe you grew up in a different background that might be it but most of us were not brought up to speak irish thats just the way it is and the cause of this is the effect british rule had on ireland...the same thing has happened with the various colonies throughout the world

We went to NY in 1947 and played an Ireland in it.
What did it do for the game in the USA ???
All that happens is that each year a few Estate agents ,Bar men , or builders buy in a team from Ireland.
Where is the youth policy.
How many of the clubs have underage teams???

I do know that it is difficult getting into the Schools to learn them GAA , but if you look at what is happening in Canada these Gaa team are promoting the game with no big name being bought in each summer

Saved by the administrator ffgg me thinks! Regarding the topic, leave it in Ireland and spend whatever amount would have been spent on bringing to America on promoting the league and guaranteeing proper crowds.
