The GAA should stop promoting the game abroad. Whats the point? Only Irish people want to play it anyway. If Irish Emmigrants want to watch the league finals, put them on tele.

Plenty of people from other countries play hurling/g football and have looked to play our national sports. Why not give irish people abroad the chance to see their county or big GAA games live?

It would be great to see the NFL finals in Gaelic Park. Guaranteed it will be standing room only. It is an opportunity to see some of the best footballers live. Usually I have to go to a pub to watch the GAA matches from Ireland so I go to Gaelic Park whenever there is a team from Connacht or the All Stars. If it is played in Gaelic Park or some other venue, I would strongly suggest that RTE broadcast it live back home. It would help those to watch it live who cannot make the trip over.

Presume TG4 would be the terrestrial broadcasters given RTÉ are only interested in the Championships and meaningless Rugby matches (that right ormond? ;)). Is there anywhere else in NY apart from GaelicPark you could play it. I know they did a lot of work down there facilities wise but surely the capacity is too small for League Finals, especially if you were to promote the matches properly.

it does serve both thats fact you may not like but its a fact as sky is also based and sold in ireland meaning it serves ireland...your argument are just ramblings now at this stage against people who watch stuff on british television there is no point continuing to debate this with you..i would rather see gaa become a worldwide sport and continue to grow outside ireland,.....if you feel the gaa and ireland need to be isolationist like they used to be thats fine your entitled to your opinion i just wont agree with you i wouldnt expect too many others to either

Im not in favour of league final outside Ireland, but walking lunchbox( im laughing as i type the name) there is a world wide gaa community out there with lots of teams at different levels in lots of countries where expats have started up clubs, standard isnt gonna get up to intercounty level well not at moment anyway. so id say its more about bringing a top level match outside of ireland for expats to come together and enjoy the occasion . a game would be nice for everyone to watch just not the final.

You are clearly clueless about the state of Gaelic Games abroad. Granted in countries where Irish people have more of a tendency to emigrate to lately, eg Australia, it will be mainly Irish people playing, and playing at a high standard. However I have seen at first hand plenty of clubs in the US founded exclusively by Americans. In continental Europe there is also a very large proportion of non-Irish playing.
The GAA should do all they can to promote Gaelic Games abroad, and playing one national league game over there will hardly take too much effort

it doesnt serve both its a british channel the same as bbc and itv and channel 4 we just have the option of purchasing it,what irish sport does it show? yes as usual when you dont like something you say theres no point debating this hmmm you need a new catch phrase.why the gaa is perfect as it is its everything that used to be good about ireland and is a tradition here which is kept alive one of the reamaining traditions we still have in ireland in a country growing more and more to american and british influences and cultures if you cannot open your eyes and see that theres something wrong,i think you just dont want to admit it. it seems most people on here would rather like my opinion that they would be better off spending the adevertisment money here on actual gaa supporters and getting them into the grounds instead of people who left the country.

its crazy though it seems everybody in ireland cares more about people who leave the country then the people who keep it going. we have the gathering next year for emigrants they have the comptetions on the sunday game fly a friend home for hurling haha yeah let he/she take somebody who goes all year rounds ticket. now they want to take the league final over to these same people who left ireland instead of if they realy wanted to promote the game why not play it in a weaker county in ireland give them something to witness it would surely be better promotion in a county like leitrim to see it then in front of a small crowd of people who will never take the game up.

sky shows irish rugby and irish internationals in soccer amongst other things and used to show gaa highlights as i have stated previously..well i dont see what there is to debate its just the usual stuff from you about how people are brainwashed and listening to brits bla bla bla...you are the one going on about how the gaa is under threat before yet you say its perfect now?...what is wrong?..every country is influenced by cultures all over the world..that is the way the world has gone..i want the gaa to grow as a sport worldwide..im a bit iffy about the games being scheduled abroad but im all for putting the gaa on various foreign tv stations around the world so more people can watch it ...its not exactly their fault they left the country either is it?

Television coverage of our games on any station in any country is a good thing, but it should always be free to view here in Ireland. Im just wary of sky because of their pay for view on big events.

Hill makes a good point re playing the finals in weaker counties, but I still think playing the league final in the US has merit. From a hurling point of view, yeah, it'd be great for us over here to be able to go to the game, but it would also help in the promotion of hurling in general over here amongst Americans. Clubs made up of native players have popped up and grown in places like Milwaukee, Madison, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and the Barley House Wolves in NH got alot of attention recent year. There's also been a growth in hurling at University level, with schools such as Stanford. Purdue, UC Davis/Berkely, Indiana and other fielding teams in National College Hurling Championships. So if it was possible to play a hurling league final in some place like Chicago, and try and involve clubs with American players from the surrounding cities, as well as the University clubs, maybe make it free in for kids, I think it would give the sports growth a boost. I live on the East Coast, and I'd definitely make the trek accross to see it. I think it would be good to cater for kids like these as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1NfpDZC4UI&feature=relmfu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ1ArTZgbuE

Typical irish attitude, impress everyone outside of Ireland and forget our own!
The GAA need to promote the game here first before even thinking about brining it overseas. We have already lost many young GAA players through soccer and rugby why try and impress other countries and forget what the GAA is about? Play the National league in Carlow, Longford, Sligo, Waterford......the list goes on!!!!

thats international sport not irish sport.exactly showcasing our top players to other countrys to take off our hands is not a good idea, our countrys culture was shaped by a defiance to british rule now that there is no terror from britain our country now is actualy doing the opposite.no there only influenced by two countries not others and those two control the worlds media so it makes sense.no but if it became worldwide sport it would be ruined like soccer currently is.
