Plus everyone knows meath have had a relatively ok championship over past 6 years, 07/09 semi finalists, quarter final in 10 and leinster champion 12 reached leinster final easily beating kildare along the way, add to that the fact meath have uncovered some very good young talent like donal keoghan, Damian Carroll, paddy gilsenan, and one that may become a household name by end of year crosbie, add to that they have top scorer from play last year Graham Reilly, the immanent return of kevin reilly, young menton, yeah I think they are easily top ten championship team, the haven't a hope of winning all ire though, and what would be seen as progress is a leinster title and the same can be said of kildare too, royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 18/01/2013 17:26:43 1320432 Link 0 |

Commander ill give you one thing you are not so far as bad as the majority of your county men, as for "we finished it " that was clearly ment in jest as id say mayo was as good as our lads. And further more that incident should never have happened, it reflected bad on our games on its biggest day, I was mearly replying to a Tyrone man who actually said they needs d boxing gloves, i mean kettle pot black stuff, as for donegal man he was clearly thinking of clondalkin post I'd say, could be wrong. But if you read back all of the mayo /meath stuff started cause I said i didn't think mayo could win all ire and i couldn't see them having such a easy run to final this year TheGateKeeper (Tyrone) - Posts: 2843 - 18/01/2013 19:05:44 1320471 Link 0 |

i dont see how meath are up there too much really either although they have potential..they were comprehensively beaten by laois...louth have shown nothing..what does their performance against meath have to do with it?..since the final against meath they have been arguably the worst team in leinster losing to carlow meath westmeath and dublin and in all those losses losing in comfortable fashion pretty much ffgg (Longford) - Posts: 2571 - 18/01/2013 19:14:03 1320474 Link 0 |

i agree kerryrows the dubs team looks to have improved since 2011 and will be dangerous if they can keep their heads, i wonder is fitzy thinking of putting donaghy in midfield and playing curtin at fullforward, curtin is more a natural fullforward then kieran. Ahh gate keeper will you go away out of that, the meath team of 96 were tough no doubt, but never dirty, tyrone tried to rough them up cause basically they were a complete new meath team and most of them were youngsters, but they didn't stand a chance, and the Tyrone players of latter Year were far dirtier, so yeah pot kettle black royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 18/01/2013 20:13:16 1320500 Link 0 |

Ah Meath -Tyrone Semi-Final 1996, McDermott 'tackled' Canavan as Canavan fired over a point - his standing foot planted firmly on the ground - a Meath man behind him and McDermott levels Canavan. Have to laugh every time I see it - McDermott looks at Canavan as if to say - 'that's the last point you will kick today mate'. sam2008 (Tyrone) - Posts: 802 - 19/01/2013 09:25:15 1320529 Link 0 |

Mcdermott did shoulder canavan tough but not dirt, should have got booked but if memory serves me right he wasn't booked for it, the problem with Tyrone in 96 was they thought all the had to do was turn up and advance to final, meath were major underdogs that year, meath were tough that day but by no means dirty, Tyrone have never beat meath in championship football even in 07 they kept underestimating meath, but 96 was still IMO sean boylans greatest year, a bunch of kids who were underdogs going into first game v carlow, and ended up winning all ire, now ok he had what would transpire to be some of the best players ever to play football on that team, fay., mcdermott, Giles, geraghty?, but they were hardly known at senior level and throw in the greatest of them all Martin O'Connell. But i do think that game toughened up tyrone and made them see how to fight for every ball and take no prisoners, and in that aspect yeah i believe thats what made Tyrone eventually win all ire royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 19/01/2013 10:30:31 1320539 Link 0 |

its not intended as a shot against louth but in fairness lads if you look at things objectively louth have been terrible since they were robbed against meath in leinster final so its laughable to have them top 10 based on championship performance ffgg (Longford) - Posts: 2571 - 19/01/2013 13:42:14 1320573 Link 0 |

Championship wise I would definitely rate Longford higher than Louth, and Championship is all that counts...even if the Longford poster thinks all us Dubs are clowns... realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8821 - 19/01/2013 18:20:45 1320627 Link 0 |

Anyway, Donegal, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo are the main contenders yet again, big chasing pack with potential giant killers on board, it's a nice looking championship, really looking forward to it. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8821 - 19/01/2013 21:13:40 1320707 Link 0 |

I'll try one last time, the reason i put louth in there is i feel they may cause a couple of shocks this year, would louth be a top 10 team at moment? Certainly not, and yes longford and many others would be ahead of them, so yet again it's just a feeling!!! Nothing more, could be proved right or completely wrong, but there you go royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/01/2013 10:16:32 1320726 Link 0 |
