1298068 Culann doing well for Dublin is winning Sam anything less is a failure and a bad season.

Well be expecting a 'bad' season so! I am going to stay realistic in the meantime.

It's extremely difficult to retain Sam, but i genuinely feel Donegal can do exactly that.

But, if it's not Donegal it'll be Cork, Dublin or Mayo.

Odds for 2013 All Ireland.

Donegal 10-3
Cork 7-2
Dublin 4-1
Kerry 4-1
Mayo 11-1
Kildare 18-1
Tyrone 20-1

As far as I can see Tyrone is the big value in this lineup. Never underestimate Mickey Harte!!!

1298077 2013 hasnt even started yet too early to judge what teams will win when we dont even know whos going to be in the panels for each team way too soon to answer that question till we see what each team actually looks like

Come on hill. Don't be so serious. Be a sport! Who's going to win? Leitrim? New York?

I probably wouldn't back Donegal at those odds - especially with the route they have

This time last year Donegal would have been weeks into their fitness plans for 2012 instead of sinking pints in Philly
No matter how focussed a mangement team are it is almost impossible for a team to win back to back
Kerry being the exception in the last couple of decades - and that is probably becase like Kilkenny in hurling the success is less Hype/Novetly

I think the odds for Mayo are about right. If I look at Donegal over the past 24 months and benchmark their opponenents based on perfromances against Donegal
(and allow for the fact that Donegal improved 2012 v 2011) I rate the others as follows

1. Dublin
2. Kerry
3. Tyrone
4. Kildare
5. Cork
6. Mayo

Definitely agree with that. They mighn't do anything in 2013 but you still have to be wary of them. Thay had a load of injuries last year and these lads will be back. A few of the auld fellas have moved on but is not necessarily a bad thing. It'll be interesting to see how they get on.

Stay realistic?? Are aim is Sam that's being realistic. Have we fallen that far behind that Sam is not our aim anymore? Explain 'Dublin doing well' to me please?

Dublin ,cork, kerry or donegal. Not sure why people think Mayo or Kildare could win it. If we have a surprise winner, it will likely come from ulster.

Laois wont win Sam or anything but expect them to have really good year . Have been really developing physically under McNulty . This year we have three additions to te team as well - Donie Kingston is back , Niall Donoher who was injured last season . And Conor Meredith who once scored three three goals in a Leinster Minor Final , and who has been playing in the AFL in Australia .

Yes Donegal are firm favourites but if this question was asked 6 months ago they may have been 4th place at best. Donegal are where they are due to their system, Manager and fanatical will to win. Unlike all other counties, their manager is the key component for them.
Can McGuinness commit 100% next year?
Will the fanatical will to win still be there?
Who will be first to copy their blueprint for success?

Donegal were 20/1 in April of this year, means little.

Thats not what I meant. You have taken my point out of context. Read back over what I wrote and you'll see for yourself. What I meant was we cannot realistically expect to win SAM every one or two years. We can aim for it but cannot realistically expect to win it every year or every second year. Its cat hard to win. We know that from the 16 years it took us to win one. Doing well is competing at the top and setting down the foundations on the senior team that will ensure that we win a few more All Irelands in the next ten years or so. What I would be happy with this year is that Gavin succeeds in implementing his changes to the team and continues on from where Gilroy left off. If he intends to change the tactics I would like to see this done successfully and would hope he can complete this within his first year. Thats of course if he intends to change tactics. If that brings about an All Ireland in 2013, well brilliant. If it dosen't bring about an All reland I would hope that the year would go along way to us winning an All Ireland in 2014. Thats what my aim would be for this team.

Again, I repeat, its unrealistic to expect to win SAM every year.

But if we don't win Sam this year whatever tactics he useses will get slated and supporters will want a change of tactics. I honestly think that only winning Sam is doing well for Dublin anything less and Gavin is under pressure the following season no matter what.

If Dubs supporters were to carry on like that they would be wrong. The real supporters would reaise that Jim Gavin is there on merit and understand that if he were to change things around a bit that it would take a wee bit of time. Gavin knows what he is doing better than you or I. I would hope our supporters would have learned from the abuse they gave Pat Gilroy in his frst two years and be willing to give Jim Gavin - a great manager - time to be successfull because there is no doubt in my mind that he will be. Obviously its a killer when your county gets knocked out but you seriously cannot expect to win SAM every year. On average the Dubs win it every five years or so. If Jim Gavin could improve on that stat (no matter how big or small) during his reign this Dubs supporter would be deighted. There is no point as supporters expecting to win it every year. Its not going to happen. That said the players should have the right frame of mind and have the goal of expecting to win it every year.

jesus clondalkin you seem to have an awful notion about a team who would not be considered one of the better all ireland winners...dublin are a contender but thats it...this win or its complete failure is nonsense

If only all supporters were as nice and patient as you. Lets live in the real world here for a minute and stop going around in circles , Dublin winning Sam is doing well anything less is a failure.you can put any spin you want on it but that is a fact. Gilroy won us Sam that still didn't stop me slating him after the Mayo game for playing fennell and Cullen and bringing on an unfit Alan Brogan.
