Looking at club level outside Kilkenny its very strong e.g Tipp, Cork, Galway etc

your not looking at club level in tipp too closely if you think its strong...back that up.... Cork to be honest hasn't looked that strong either for a few years

It looked pretty strong to me yesterday Tiobrad

Its not just one thing that makes them what they are. It starts in the schools were the children are encouraged to play the game ( A lot of ex kilkenny and currant players are teachers in these schools). They have the hurl in their hand every day and with the success that the seniors are having at present then their is a massive knock on effect of children wanting to become intercounty players for Kilkenny. They want to represent their county not play for Man United, Celtic etc,
Then they have secondary schools which are like development squads. This is the key age for children to develop and with Kierans and the Cbs they have the breading grounds for the future senior teams.
Finally they have a county board who is willing to back their manager to the hilt. Whatever Cody wants he gets.

Well as a cynic I would always argue its more difficult to win the football championship as more teams compete.

Kilkenny have been the dominant force in what is effectively a small championship. Take Cork, Tipp, Clare, Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny, Dublin, Wexford, Offaly, Galway and Antrim once in a blue moon........that's an 11 team championship. In recent times only Cork, KK, Waterford and Tipp have looked contenders for winning the Liam Mc cup. And besides KK.....the others have sporadically challenged. only Cork and Tipp have really threatened KK dominance in the past ten years.

So why are KK so good.....

1) Everybody else is bad
2) Kilkenny don't play football, so they don't have duel code problems
3) Other sports aren't popular in KK.....they don't have a huge population of soccer or rugby pulling players away from hurling, unlike many other counties
4) All monies generated for developing games.....are put into one sport.

They are terrible at most other sports (sorry it's true KK people....and before people rant....think about it realistically)

I agree with you 100% JayP ~ WELL SAID, no other sport in Kilkenny is taken as seriously as the hurling, its a crying shame on their part....

Thurlesblues, If Sheflin stayed on the field in 2010 ye would have won nothing. But in fairness your management from 2010 got out when the going was good.

The last time I watched any of these so-called dominant sports in other counties, there was maybe 500 people at league of ireland football matches. Is that what people call dominant sports? Kilkenny have produced Olympic boxers and professional rugby players in recent years.
The fact of the matter is that everyone who beats Kilkenny over their attitude to football is jealous of their success in hurling, and are burying their own head in the sand regarding the attitude to hurling within their own county.

Hound Tipp were 1-4 to 0-1 when Henry was still on the pitch if he had stayed on the pitch Tipp would have won by a lot more than they did
