Longwood from Co. Meath

Longwood in Muff would be a good game.

If Longwood ended up playing Muff too many times in a short space of time there could be quite a few players looking to transfer to Crookedwood...

I have always liked the club name Oulart The Ballagh, it sounds like a declaration of war when shouted out loud. Could one of our Wexford friends enlighten me on the origins of the name?

Oulart is the parish village, The Ballagh is the curacy, just like many other clubs. The Ballagh real name is "Ballaghkeen", but the irish translation on the sign entering the village is "An Bealach" which is I suppose where it became commonly known as The Ballagh.

Its very simple Ulsterman... Oulart and The Ballagh are just two villages in the same parish.. They combined the names of the two villages to make the name of the club..simples. I rather your war story though

Cheers folks I do have a fondness for that name for no particular reason, what's their record like in Wexford, are they a Championship winning club? I know Antrim have good relations with Wexford clubs and I remember Belfast's Rossa losing to Buffers Alley in the All Ireland Club final about 20 years ago. There was a fella playing for Buffers who I think was the oldest ever to play in a club final, what was his name?

Ulsterman, they are the pace-setters in Wexford hurling at present and would always be known as Oulart rather than Oulart-The-Ballagh.

They won their first county title in 1994 after years of being close but could never beat Buffers Alley or Rathnure who were the pace setters at the time. Since then they have won 9-10 I think. They had a great underage team containing Keith Rossiter, The Jacobs, Darren Stamp etc and as a club they set the bar high with their hard-work and effort. Clubs are now learning off them but they still set the pace.

There is a story always told where one year Oulart were sure they were going to win the co. final and they had a load of tyres ready for a bonfire. They lost and a member of the winning team rang the pub in Oulart saying that if they didnt need those tyres, they would take them off their hands!!!

It must have been Tony Doran playing in that club final was it? He would have been 43-44 at that stage so I would guess it was him?

When you consider that loads of their players come from all different parts of County Galway,as well as beyond in some cases, the name Salthill/Knocknacarra is pretty strange to be honest.

Played against a couple of rare ones in Dublin. St Bernard gaels used to be a team made up of Dunnes stores workers. We used to joke that their jersies were numbered 1.99 to 15.99. And of course Paveh gaels..don't know if they're still going
