it didnt say in the statement he will be continuing on as donegal manager.

More to the point he hasn't resigned as manager either & there is zero chance that he will not be Donegal's manager next year.

how it will work i cannot understand as he was putting in 60 hours some weeks this year managing the donegal team so be impossible to have the same level of commitment from himself to donegal that he required his players to be putting in.

This is only a part time jon with the U20 squad. He can do it in his sleep & no player will have any cause to question his committment. Things may change a bit with Rory Gallagher taking training one night a week, but with modern communications I don't see any problem.

i dont see any reason why you would want to go to the scottish league apart from money anyway its the same standard as the aritricity league you always only had two teams above our league in quality now you only have one and he not even working with them players he will be working with kids if he does leave a team he managed to achieve an all ireland with for a kids backroom staff role its a step backwards in terms of everything except money.

Who said anything about him leaving Donegal GAA? He is doing nothing of the sort. All he is doing is taking up a position in his chosen field of excellence to support hsi family, just as every other GAA manager has to do. Celtic, as we saw the other night, are a long way above Airtricity League & I'm sure Jim reckons he can learn a lot while there. It's win win as far as I'm concerned

Heres a different link saying 40 hours a week
http://thescore.thejournal.ie/its-over-40-hours-a-week-jim-mcguinness-hoping-his-hard-works-pays-for-donegal-on-sunday-598209-Sep2012/

"It's more than 40 hours a week. And that doesn't matter if you are in an All-Ireland final or with a Division 4 team, it's the same hours I would imagine. You have to be interacting with the players, the support team. Donegal is a big county, it takes us an hour to get to training, you are there an hour before training. We normally train for two hours, contrary to the press, not six. You have an hour after training and an hour home, so that's six hours and that's four nights a week.
"And me and Rory would be on the phone at least an hour every day, then you've got your one to ones with players, then you are going watching games and watching club games. It could be anything."

He continued: "Football is my life I wouldn't change a minute of it and I have a great support system at home that allows me to do that. I hate saying 40 hours because it sounds like a job type thing, it's not. It's a passion. I went for the job three times for good reason, I believed I could do something with the players and I believed the players were there.

_________________________________________________________________

Ok it says here they trained 4 times a week - but I dont think that was for the majority of the year. And those hours include travelling etc And telephone calls with players and Rory (an hour a day he says), which can still be done. Like he said, its his passion. Whereas me and you might browse these forums or watch TV, Jim does his work and preparation for the actual 6 or 7 hours a week he spends with the players as a group. Everything else can be done from wherever he is

I accept that it will be a tough task or even if he will do it, but I'm sure they will work it out and Jim will do whatever he thinks is best for Donegal football. People are just exaggerating the whole think out of bitterness and jealousy of what the man has achieved

well i cannot see it working mixing soccer with gaa and being able to commit himself to the same degree he did for last two years with donegal.
he can do in his sleep you say in one part then reckon he will learn alot from taking this role which is it?
celtic won one game yes over a big team it does not mean the scottish league is miles ahead of the airitricity league i already stated celtic were the only team above our teams in ireland and that remains the case they have no competition in scotland with rangers gone and their domestic form has suffered as a case of this

theres no bitterness or jealousy on my behalf at all im saying this as i would like to see him stay manage donegal and not go to another sport for money reasons.
yes in your piece he says of how long it took to travel while actualy living in donegal imagine the travelling now commuting from scotland, 40-60 hours whatever it is its still impossible to commit to in the same manner he did for last two years so if he does try both i cannot see donegal coming off best i feel there the ones who will suffer.

Apparently Celtic are to experiment with a 7-2-1 formation.

A lot of hot air being written here now.

Don't get this people being back slapped then the dollars are waved, then gone. Young people need role models in the GAA. When they see a standard of excellence they strife to attain it. There will be losses of some of our greats but they leave a legacy and others will step up to the plate. Standards will continue to improve overall otherwise no-one would be interested in our talented people.
This opportunity is a what McGuinness is trained for in his professional life. He did for Donegal and didn't get paid - it's an excellent opportunity for him.
Things will change no doubt can he combine both? Time will tell but he will have to spend more than a few hours to collect 150k. The schedule of flights will be a burden - of course there's an airport in Carrickfinn - one flight a day and one return, Derry won't be much better and if he drives from Belfast it'll drain him.
Hope he can combine both but there will be even more sacrifices particularly from a man who has made many already.

fair play to McGuinness, great manager turned Donegal from an average team into All Ireland Champs in two years. Obviously will be a huge loss to them next year if he is not involved . Its a huge opportunity to turn down and no one can blame him for taking the job, am sure the people of Donegal are grateful to him for all the service he has given them and the trophy's he has delivered.

You'd have to be happy for him and I hope that it works out for him.
No possible way he should remain as Donegal manager. Missing at least 50% of sessions -can't work.
He's obviously a talented manager and sports psychologist etc but the Donegal PLAYERS were still far better than any team last year and there is no reason to think they can't be again with a proper management structure. They deserve a bit of respect here - including from Jimmy himself!
Obviously accepting the job is a no brainer but don't take the p*ss with this 3 days a stuff! Just move on!

I think he has been working as a teacher. I might be wrong but a few people have said to me this last few days that they thought he was a teacher.

again hill is anti people going to other sports even on a part time basis....he is going due to the ability he has shown as a coach and is going to make a living off it for his family whilst he will also continue as manager of donegal so what is the issue?celtic are miles ahead of the airtricity and celtic are a giant club and it wasnt just one win they have already beaten spartak in russia also......celtic also have massive links with donegal

why is it different for gilroy hill?...he could have stayed on if he wanted he wasnt pushed but did he take the money also as in your logic he did?u do realise jim mcguinness also worked a job last year did he not so why should a job change matter so much to you?

who said any thing about Jim missing training sessions, it is possible to fly from glasgow to donegal in a helicopther and back, just like players from other county panels fly from dublin to training and back again. what is the differance??

After that defensive display by celtic the other night, Jim has been called in to make them more attacking! Seriously though, good luck to the man in any venture he pursues. He gave pride and glory back to our beloved county after years of ridicule and failure and for that he will never be forgotten. Not a celtic fan in any way, but they done good business in landing Jim. Best of luck to him. Still think it'll push him on even more next year to repeat 2012. Was never going to be easy, but i am more confident now than a month ago that donegal will succeed again. Cant wait for the championship to start again! Hurry up May!

Just a number of factual corrections

Jim held talks with Senior Members of the County Board in Letterkenny on Tuesday where he outlined the deal that had been offered b y Celtic Football Club. Present at meeting was Jim and a member of his Backroom team from last year (Who it seems will be given a bigger role in moving Donegal Forward) along with County Chairman and Treasurer and one other board member, Understand that meeting lasted a number of hours and both sides parted on good terms but nothing was agreed with Regard to Jim staying on as Manager.
Jim's role within Celtic Football Club I understand will involve a role with BOTH the Celtic First Team together with Working within the Clubs Youth Structure. I understand that this role will involve Jim Being in Glasgow for 3 Full Days a week in the Interim Period HOWEVER can see this ending with a Full Time Role
Neither Jim nor the County Board will be taking any chances with being seen to be "Walk Away" from the Present Job. Can see Jim Being Moved into a Role that see s him still involved with the Team but with a greater emphasises on developing structures within the coaching elements of Donegal GAA.
Will be expecting a Silver Bullet to move Jim on in a respectable Manner
