If he lands it, it would be a brilliant personal achievement and a vindication of his ways X 2!

The Donegal fascination with Celtic, is reflective in Donegal's style of play!
AI champions or not, they are 'boring as f@#k' to watch!

I think it's more Celtic's facination with County Donegal. Partly due to the huge section of the Glasgow population that have family ties with Donegal, and the bond that exists because of that.

As for the football, Donegal's style of play has been brilliant this season. In truth its mostly jealous fans of other counties spouting this, as they are finding the pedestal upon which they placed their own teams starting to shake.

In 2012 Donegal have been more entertaining that a host of top teams who have been brutal to watch. In fact name one team that has been consistantly better to watch? By consistantly better to watch, I want you to list 3 - 4 championship matches by a single team that were more entertaining games ( One or two good matches won't cut it ).

Cork v Donegal was game of the year in my book.
Donegal v Kerry was edge of the seat stuff.
Donegal v Down was possibly the most entertaining Ulster final in 30 years.
Donegal v Tyrone was the most tactical battle witnessed this season, when two great football minds collided.

And their other 3 Donegal championship games werent bad either!.

Anything to get another dig in at Celtic from pplocal. As insults go that was weaker than watered-down water.

Word on RTE this evening is that McGuinness is about to sign a contract with Celtic. May be part time one which will allow him to continue with Donegal. He will be a coach / sport psychologist to Celtic youth teams apparenly. He was in Parkhead last night for the Celtic v Barca match.

Interesting times ahead for Donegal & Celtic.

That'll be the end of that Donegal team so.

Might cause some resentment from the players, they've really bought into Jim.

Dont think that it will affect morale at all. In fact, it will mean that the Donegal team will probably be training in parkheads facilities, and that may even focus them even more.

This story certainly appears to have some substance with €150k p.a. for a part-time role being quoted, 3-4 days a week in Glasgow. Just can't see how it could be combined with that commitment, travel from Glasgow to Donegal and what represented more than full-time with Donegla (Twice per day tranining).
It's one of those ones if true where the money and opportunity is too good to turn down but Donegal and a sense that they are only getting started too much walk away from and the attempt to find an impossible compromise. Interesting times.
I'd like him to do it because he is a professional in every sense but not getting remunerated as such but would feel for Donegal if he had to leave.

You can fly from Derry-Glasgow so travel isn't a problem. I don't see how this changes much really. McGuinness will be patroling the sideline next summer (when it's soccer closed season anyway) but maybe if he does a good job with the hoops his contract may be extended and become a full-time gig.
For now Donegal and Celtic fans can both be happy

I can't help but feel the Donegal players will not be pleased at this development. They're manager won't be taking roughly 50% or so of their trainings anymore, which may signal that he's dividing his time with another team playing a foreign code. I would have had them down as dead certs for Sam again next year, but if there's any doubts that the manager is not backing you 100%, every step of the way, it'll have a knock on effect.

srb i get that there are flights - not sure how frequent plus travel from Derry to Donegal. Take 4 days at Parkhead, plus Donegal, young family. Something has to give love to see him do both but think impossible without seriously curtailing hands on Donegal involvement.

I think he weaved a wee bit of his magic on Wednesday night.

1. Sam is up for grabs next year. I cant see us having the same hunger and thats a big factor. Plus there are plenty of good squads with new managers who will bring a freshness. I said all this before these developments.
2. Practically, it wont make a massive difference. There are 2 county training sessions a week. Rory Gallagher will take one of them. Rory is a fantastic coach in his own right and doesnt get enough credit for what he brings to the table

I fail to see why this is being presented as an "either or" scenario. I assume Jimmy McGuinness has been engaged in some sort of other employment over the past couple of years: he hasn't been the full-time manager of Donegal. The vast majority of county managers are able to combine their management duties with work in another sphere. In fact, these guys are usually organised, focused individuals and experts in time management and delegation. I think it should be possible to do a part-time job with a club like Celtic while also managing Donegal
