McGuinness for Celtic

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

At the risk of getting back on to topic Jimmy McGuinness in today's indo. Some good points about the other succesful managers and even members of his team. I'm convinced Donegal won't suffer any detriment other than people looking for excuses if things start to waver slightly.

JIM McGuinness has rubbished suggestions that his new part-time job as performance consultant with Celtic will impinge on his capacity to fuel the obsession required to take Donegal onto another level.

"Other managers have jobs too. Does that impact on their role as managers? Rory Gallagher (his assistant) is running a shop and has got 40 staff. Is that disrupting his focus with Donegal? No. Conor Counihan has a big job too. Does that take his away his focus from Cork? I don't think so," said McGuinness, who will link up with the Scottish giants on a formal basis on Monday week.

"You would need to ask other managers. Does their day job impact with the job that they do with the county team? My role with Celtic won't be an issue at all as far as Donegal are concerned."

Over the past two years, he usually worked with the Donegal players on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday - with some Saturdays thrown in if required - and insisted there would be no fundamental change to the programme.

His deal with Celtic allows him to fit in his commitments with them around the Donegal schedule, an arrangement which he believes will work well. In fact, he is convinced that Donegal will benefit from his links with Celtic.

"When I'm at home, I can focus solely on Donegal. There's not a manager in the country that has that situation. It's about how you use the time. I will be living in Glasgow a few nights a week and I can spend that time working on things I want to do with Donegal," he said.

McGuinness also believes that what he learns from a professional set-up will be hugely beneficial to Donegal, whose fans will be delighted to hear that he is not planning a permanent move to Celtic.

"I'm happy with the job I'm in," he said. He also revealed that he was not planning to pursue soccer coaching badges.

yeah you see the problem was fuelled by our media who gave complete false announcments to their public.
by stating he would be working four days a week over there and that he was getting paid 150,000
we now see its more like two days and half of that at best in money.

I said from the start of this post (Before you and ffgg and Culann got going) - where did they get that number from? One paper took a potshot and the rest followed. It's in no-one's interest to release the figure - why would they?

i agree its just typical of the media here as if you looked at the star on monday morning on the backpage was positives for soccer and a picture showing a club match were goalkeeper i think it was had a headbutt into the back of another player and said all the best gaa action inside surely they could have had a picture of a positive aspect of one of the games.

Im pretty sure it was you and not the media who speculated on the amount of days he would be working. yes the media stated the 150,000 salary after which you used your super intelligence to do the maths and figure out that that would calculate to atleast 4 days work.

direct quote from hill "papers quoting 150,000 salary which would mean he would have to spend at least 4 days in scotland"

yeah good man Hill I had a feeling you'd pull that one.

"papers quoting 150,000 salary which would mean he would have to spend at least 4 days in scotland that was why i said he was leaving but them reports seem to be wrong and looks like now he will only spend 3 days at most maybe"

The above looks like a bit of speculation to me, does it not?

I see that McGuinness is now likely to be part of Paul McGinley's backroom team should McGinley get the Ryder Cup Captain's nomination. Fair play to McGuinness he obviously has what it takes. Good luck to him.

_______________

Yes Ive heard this two - McGinleys parents are from Dunfanaghy and re maintains close links with the county

It has also been rumoured that as Dave Gallagher (Captain of the original All Blacks) was a native of Ramelton that Jim has been approached
to design a more physcologically effective HAKA

Also leading sports agent and native of Milford Ricky Simms has been impressed with Jims approach and it has been suggested that he will doing some prep work in advance of the track world championships in 2014 for some of Rickys clients ( including Usain Bolt and Mo Farah)

I think that 'joke' has just put an end to this thread!

Evidently not Culann but out of curiosity why did you think it would?

I have to say that the Donegal supporters are very gracious in victory and not
getting ahead of themselves like a certain county's supporters did last year! LOL ;)
Good luck to Jimmy aka the Irish Chuck Norris.

I don't know really. Didn't the same sports phychologist the Dubs had this last few years look after Bernard Dunne and the Irish Rugby team at some stage. Theses people are in demand!

I must admit though i'm feeling a wee bit gullible now.

Nothing in comparison to your compadres last year hill!
You had to have witnessed it from a non-blue perspective.
It made the fall all the sweeter for the rest of us though! ;)
