no he spoke the truth he said he feels should get paid and wouldnt play gaa again without being paid which is what i have told you already is why these players go over there so that just proved my point

3 clubs over 10,000 outside of celtic if im not mistaken..pretty good attendence

Three clubs and not one of them has hosted Celtic yet this season either.

So bang goes the theory that "part from celtic no side can get more then 10 thousand for home matches and tat is onlywhen they play celtic".

soccer is the main sport in scotland what is your point?both me and if in doubt have already showed you the league is far better attended and run then you claim

so by your logic there should be huge crowds at evry sport played in china becuase of their population they should get over 100 thousand supportrs for all sports despite some sports being more popular then others your arguement is ridiculous, take limerick for example they are a big city so they have big population so they by your eckoning should get a certain attendance despite rugby being the most popular sport.

your getting very childish at this stage with this this sport has better athletes that sport does bla bla....they are all great athletes both gaa players and professionals..they all have different types of bodies which are suited to the sports they play....i wish any player who wants to leave the gaa for pro sport well in their career....and vice versa for those who leave pro sport for the gaa

what are you on about hill im lost?..you said no scotland was poorly attended and received under 10,000 bar celtic and when those teams played celtic which is completely false...where have i said anything else?the fact thats it the biggest sport and per population is one of the best attended in europe further show how big the league is in scotland so please explain what your point is?..im totally lost at this stage

you do realise those figures dont include all the other clubs attendence figures which are decent and of course celtic and a certain club in the lower leagues who both receive huge attendences week in week out

Per head of population attendences in Scotland are higher than most other countries in Europe even engerland so it is quite impressive.

even though he was playing at the top level in the top sport played in the country you reagrd it as a step up for him to play for bohs?
last years champions shamrock rovers are now trained by a gaa player phily mcmahon this shows that while it may be called professional that gaa players are better trained atheltes so it would be a step backwards to play soccer here.

Well he was only playing for the under 21's to be fair, hardly the top level now, although his club did win the county championship last year and held their own in Leinster.

I never said it was a step up, at Bohs he's still only on amateur terms, just gets a bit of help with his scholarship deal in DCU as far as I know. It would be a step up were he to make a move to a professional club, and sign a professional contract enabling him to make a living from playing the sport, either here or abroad.

Shams have the Mun lad involved now alright, but to be fair to Philly he's done plenty of conditioning sessions with football clubs in the past. It's not as if Shams decided to hire a guy solely because of his GAA background, obviously they were looking for somebody who knew what working and training in a hire pressured sporting role was like, but more importantly I'd say they were looking for somebody with the right qualifications and experience.

There's very little comparison between the conditioning levels of football and GAA players to be made, apart from maybe three clubs in Ireland, neither sport is at a professional level.

Not all GAA players are better trained than Airtricity League players, obviously you have to consider that both sports will require different types of fitness and all its elements, so the training programmes for each would be very sport specific.

That's the thing though, aside from the big two Glasgow clubs the marketing and promotion isn't great, especially when you consider the effort Sky put into backing the Premiership and the gulf in money they spend on the rights to both leagues.

I don't think anybody would argue that outside the two Glasgow clubs that any of the Scottish clubs are global powers with large support coming from overseas.

Which I'd say just highlights how well supported the smaller clubs and the leagues are.

Lads will you just give it a rest!!!!

As a Donegal man I'm interested in Jim's move to Celtic yet every time I see a comment on this thread recently it seems to be on a different topic, either stay on the topic or create your own thread as this is getting silly now, ffgg you are the biggest culprit!!!

Maybe its time Admin closed the thread so you guys can start your own!!!

I heard there were not many at the game last night. What happened to the 'best soccer fans in the world'? Where were they last night?

yeah 20 thousand was the official figure given but it was certainly exaggerated with platini in attendance to award the irish with that award for best supporters in poland, it looked less then the fai cup final a few weeks ago which got 16 thousand.

ha ha. The same 'great fans' who stayed way even got a reward. hilarious. You could not script it!

What do you think ffgg.? You'd probably argue that per head of population that 20,000 attendance would be equal to 200,000 for an England match. Hilarious!

Heard it was only just over 16,000 myself, pretty poor alright and definitely looked to be on a par with the crowd that was there for the cup final a few weeks.

Hardly a shock though considering it was pretty much a meaningless friendly, I'm sure if you wanted to get into the semantics of it, it could be compared to the crowds at O'Byrne Cup, McKenna Cup or FBD league matches in comparison to crowds at championship and All Ireland semis and finals.

The best fans in the world though were probably more concerned with the match in Luxembourg, after all that's where the Scotland team were playing...

What any of this has to do with Jim McGuinness is beyond me though...
