If a player plays inter county pay a fee

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Players can chose whatever path they want, AFL has the closest similarities to gaa football, so you can understand a young player thinking to himself ill give that a go and see if i can make some good money(if they are offered the chance)
i dont think we can or should try and stop people trying anything they like in life or going abroad, what annoys me is not that the lads have an opportunity to make money , its the free run the aussies are being given in poaching players. its not the same as a lad just going abroad to work. Its like a person just finishing their 4 year apprenticeship and college paid for by a particular company and just as they qualify a company abroad snatches them away with a better deal. NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT, but it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I just think the aussies are amazed how easy of a run they are getting here. and it doesnt seem to bother anyone that much here either.

thats exactly my point the gaa needs to do something soon or like we have seen in the last week the aussies arent the only ones poaching as rugby is enticing players too

i dont have a problem with pro sports themselves yes i find it hard to imagine ronaldo or balitelli trining 3 or 4 days a week if he wasnt getting paid il agree there.
what i have a problem with is pro sports poaching our top new talents this is a gaa forum so i am looking at it in a gaa manner and is it wrong to want the gaa to do something to prevent loosing its big names?

Poaching would suggest that something Illegal is taking place. have you any evidence of this?
Maybe if you stuck a bit closer to reality and also desisted from casting slurs on people that decide of their own free will to play a sport you could be taken seriously

Eric Elwood has tipped former Westmeath minor football star Robbie Henshaw to play rugby for Ireland

Could this be the end of civilisation as we know it.

i agree dhorse no need for the slurs or comments hill that is our problem with you it seems.....well i agree hill the gaa should not help the afl in any way such as provide facilities and that.....not sure what else we can do as it is totally up to the player themselves and they have every right to do what they want..this is a democracy after all....and your making assumptions about ronaldo and balotelli based off their demeanour...do you know these people?.....many have stated cristiano ronaldo is one of the hardest working players on the training ground they have ever seen

This was soccer clubs main arguing point against the Bosman Ruling you know, that they trained the players and groomed them from youth levels so they should still be able to get some compensation if the players are out of contract. Now obviously GAA players are never under contract so what do ye expect to happen?

most of these gaa players come back within a year or two anyway so...i dont understand what sort of compensation hill is talking about either...its not like soccer where some clubs looked after players money wise also...gaa clubs just gave these players coaching and a team to play for...its totally up to the player at this stage as it should be

We should all sit here and rot waiting for the gaa and the gov to feed us.

Surely then they'd have to give the compensation back to the club in question.

Or if the GAA club made contact with the player about returning then it'd be only right that they pay compensation to the AFL club themselves.

exactly they never make it and only go for the few bob this pro carrear malarky is all a front and come on you know full well ronaldo and ballotelli are pre madonnas they would look for modeling jobs if they were not getting paid to play soccer they wouldnt even want to own a soccer ball

Neither do I to be honest.

Maybe PE teachers are entitled to some of this compensation too?

Surely they'd have helped coach lads like Ciarán Kilkenny too, especially in sports other than football or hurling which would have helped his all round athletic ability and skill level.

the majority of them do but there are some who are good enough to make it as a proper career....you accuse them of going for money..what money?..they receive very little....and in relation to balotelli and ronaldo that post is just plain and simple utter uneducated uninformed nonsense

the fact that these people only earn money due to huge amounts of training and playing soccer in order to escape their tough up bringing....please stop with the nonsense you are getting beyond a joke at this stage

Most people don't win the lotto either, should they all stop playing it too?

That's pretty much equivalent to your argument about there being no point in a player going over to accept a rookie contract. Most GAA players never win an All Ireland, should they give up playing altogether?

Nice to see that you've so much faith in Kilkenny's level of ability that you think he's wasting his time even trying it out.

I'm not even going to bother attempting to engage you in a debate on Ronaldo or Balotelli.
