This has to be one of the most pointless topics of all time.
We are 80 odd posts in & I guarantee you, not one person has changed his stance.
Comparing hurling & football is like comparing apples & oranges. They are different games that just happen to share the same club & county colours & the same pitches to play on.
Why can't we be happy that we can call the two best field sports in the world our own and move on.
re royaldunne, didnt see anywhere on our treasurers report where football helped support anything that happened in our club, and we're thriving at all levels. But sure we're strugglin, only 100 odd hurling clubs in my part of the countrx,ah sure we're starved of hurling! Everytime you post on hurling you show your ignorance on the subject.laughable really.
but a better product adds in all of the above arguements including cost and when you add everything up in both games the plain and simple answer is football is more popular thus meaning its the better product! the whole thread focused on hurling being the better product and that statement simply is wrong is what im saying
I know its been a couple of days but to reply.....
What you are saying is correct, and I don't disagree, hurling may be aesthetically pleasing and it may be a better/more skilful game.
But its not a better PRODUCT. A product is something people want, and get excited about, something they'd pay to see.
And although I do attend a lot of hurling games; the standard between the top teams and the rest is massive. Like, Kilkenny will probably win this weekend, there are still only about 12 teams competing at the top level in hurling. Its very predictable and in effect, theres only two provencial championships. So Im just pointing out its hardly a better PRODUCT at present. Attendences are low at the early games in prov. championships as generally the decent teams are banishing the poor teams. Then its a shootout between the mediocre teams before getting slaughtered by the one or two decent teams.
And I know there is equally the argument that there have been TOP teams in Football. But year to year the top 4 (which changes every year) .....theres an upset and one of them generally gets beaten by a non-fancied team. That never happens in hurling.
The product is more teams, smaller teams fancy their chances of an upset, they may get one in the provence, or get some bigger team lying in the long grass of the backdoor system. And there are just more games in football. While not perfect, its just a better product at present.
1273428 ah with that argument hill rugby or cricket are better products than gaa cause they are more popular around the world and that is just plain nonsense
no quite simply rugby and cricket are more popular internationaly then gaa yes that is obvious but in ireland gaa is more popular is it not? when you add up all the factors football sells better then hurling meaning it is a better product and product being the key word the person who started this thread used
