I was just asking a lad the same last week who has had both and he preferred the Mycro one than the Marc one, but he said the difference is marginal but his head sweated less in the Mycro one. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 15/09/2012 12:04:31 1266571 Link 0 |

What's up with the (relatively) new O'Neills helmets? Hardly see anyone wearing them. Are they no good? portinexile (USA) - Posts: 21 - 20/09/2012 15:03:11 1269620 Link 0 |
slownonesided,I seen a fellah getting injured in a club game in Wexford recently. His faceguard was one thrown onto a cooper helmet,it broke when he missed a block and got the full force of a hurl.Broke the faceguard,he almost lost an eye as a result and finished up needing a major operation to repair a shattered cheekbone and jawbone. After seeing that, practically our whole team bought proper helmets. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 20/09/2012 17:37:01 1269733 Link 0 |
Snufalufagus, that was a cracker alright, looked like a saucepan on your head. Was it Ger Fennelly who wore one? Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 20/09/2012 18:06:12 1269748 Link 0 |

I have a mycro one and it's dead on. Did you ever see helmets which extend round the sides to shield the ears? You don't want to block your hearing but surely they should make them protect your ears too. Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 21/09/2012 09:05:52 1269936 Link 0 |

The helmets with faceguard were introduced after a young Dublin hurler lost his life after being hit in the face with a sliothar! Snufalufagus (Dublin) - Posts: 8100 - 21/09/2012 12:51:27 1270130 Link 0 |
The best hurling helmet is one which is thrown on the the ground while the young lad goes off with a football, to be honest the better and more played game of football, royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 21/09/2012 13:59:39 1270196 Link 0 |
Arock, I'm pretty sure I saw a lad wearing a helmet once that had the metal grid extended round the sides. Can't say for sure that it covered the ears but it could be built that way easily enough. Maybe its because when you draw back the stick before you pull, it comes close to your own head, and might catch, affecting your swing. I don't know but if helmets are mandatory they may as well make them FULLY protect the head. Lets face it, broken fingers will heal but getting blattered in the side of the head could result in deafness or even death. We all love to play but it's not worth losing your quality of life over especially if we are talking underage boys and girls. Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 21/09/2012 20:02:22 1270483 Link 0 |
Suas sios there was helmets where they protected the ears, but I never see them any more. They were a faceguard just put on a helmet mind you. Probably a good idea to get ear protection but if a fellah is hitting his ear with his own hurl, he's clearly a very awkward hurler! Maybe they don't do it to cut costs then Pinkie. Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 24/09/2012 10:30:34 1271488 Link 0 |
I couldnt think who used to wear one last night but now remembered Seamus Prendergast was one, and possibly James Young of Laois but I am not sure on the 2nd one! Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 24/09/2012 16:20:35 1271883 Link 0 |
people are saying not to customise helmets for obvious reasons of insurance/injury etc. but yet you see top players wearing different guards eg. joe canning, tommy walsh, shane dowling, eoin larkin, colin fennelley, michael fennelley.... obviously it improves vision but does it really matter that much? slownonesided (Limerick) - Posts: 45 - 27/09/2012 14:25:36 1273770 Link 0 |
Some of the top players should come out and wear the old mycro prototype!!......have the young ones dust them off and help same money during this recession! Snufalufagus (Dublin) - Posts: 8100 - 27/09/2012 14:51:17 1273789 Link 0 |
