Could this be the end of Gilroy?

hill16man,

Do you not find that Pat Gilroy has been over loyal to Connolly though maybe due tio the fact they played together and are club mates? Sometimes I get very nervous about Connolly and feel at times he is a liability. If another manger was to come in I'm not sure the same amount of trust adn belief would be there as is now between Gilroy and Connolly. There is no doubting he is a fantastic player on his day however.

he is still a good manager but he made some mistakes this year like bringing on alan and not bringing on subs earlier yesterday as that game was slipping away very early. I also think he is missing his sidekick whelan from last year a lot of experience there as imo was the main man there all along.

So what you are saying is that Wghelan was the manager last year and not Gilroy? Lets be clear about this.

Yeah he did have a "fife" year plan and that included winning the all ireland after them "fife" years , He managed to do it after three.

Year four didnt end up with us in a final but mayo where always going to be a "banana skin"

What im saying is you cant have enough experienced background team as any small decision could be the difference in winning and loosing in the heat of the battle.we should know that down here in kerry.

A dead decent guy,Pat Gilroy, and wish him the best whatever he does.

However,I think that deep down he'll be happy to walk away from this.

I dont like the term "walk away" as it sounds like he is abandoning a sinking ship when it is quite the opposite ..

He has done what he set out to do , He led this team to an All ireland two years earlier than he planned. He has introduced alot of outstanding talent and put Dublin back on the footballing map. He is a really nice genuine man ..

I would much rather him stay on but work and family come first.

A good man who moved Dublin on and brought them an All Ireland but I must admit I wondered what McManamon made of the Alan Brogan substitution when it happened. Here was a man who terrorised defences last year being left on the bench when a player who was nowhere near right was sent on in his place. By the time the mistake was rectified the game was as good as over.
Everyone makes mistakes & good men learn from them but if Gilroy himself hasn't the stomach for it then, yes he should resign. Otherwise I think he deserves another shot at it.

This is really a thread for the Dublin forum and for what it's worth Gavin will take over the seniors now.

Gilroy will more than likely go. He owes us nothing.

Culann:

Connolly is gone no matter what. I'd be very surprised if we see Connolly play for Dublin again.

Molly , Its got nothing to do with football. More to do with issues off the field ..

Hope he does stay I like Pat Gilroy and think he's done an incredible job turning around this team after a mauling by Meath to AI champions. He rebuilt a team at rapid speed and changed the mindset of the team particularly when under pressure.
His tenure has been relatively short and the future looks really bright for them with the U-21 and minors coming through. When you consider Dublin have not reached the heights of last year but made it to September without any real drama - they are not far away at all - games of inches as they say.

One concern maybe is Bernard Brogan whose confidence looks shot - very similar to Sean Cavanagh player of the year 2008, Gaa pin up boy but has really struggled to get back to where he was (famously criticsed by mickey Harte for getting distracted).
