Dublin - Two in a row

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So your going to ignore the fact that mark Mchugh plays as a sweeper? And please don't tell brian Cullen or Paul Flynn play as sweepers. We're defensive but Donegal take it to another level. I again think Martin Mchugh has a good idea when he says 4 forwards should be in the oppositions half at all times. We need to do something cause it's going to be terrible to watch.

1255264 Question for yous; so if Donegal win it this year and next year does that make them a great team? Cause for me there not a great team it's there system that is great. For me this is no good for the game of football cause when everyone copies Donegal its going to be terrible to watch. Basically I'm very worried for the future of our game. Donegal people are blinded and I don't blame them but there has to be a bigger picture here for the game of football.

I don't understand this. The game against Cork was exhilirating to watch and the Cork supporters round us praised the performance of the Donegal team. Every commentator and newspaper report thas been high in praise of the performance which contained the following traditional GAA qualities.

1 Great high fielding
2 Great place kicking off the ground 52m from Murphy 45m from Mcfadden
3 An absence of malice. There wasn't one dirty or malicious tackle in the whole game. Donegal got only one yellow card & that was more for clumsiness than anything else
4 Great defence. Apart from the great covering, Donegal conceded only one point from a free.
5 Superb fitness & stamina.
6 Great points from distance.

As to every team doing it. I don't think so. It's a way of playing that you either do very well or it collapses in a heap around you. There are fewer than 5 or 6 counties that could even aspire to what Donegal are doing at the moment.

If this Sunday's semi Final is as entertaining as last Sunday's then we will have seen a great game.

'TWO IN A ROW' THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR EACH TIME!......to speak of doing 'two in a row' by any less method is cringeworthy!

1254609 And even if we did do it there are still a ****load of people in here would tell you we are still not a great team Sedico!!
If Dublin won 2 in a row, Ulsterman and many others would STILL say we are an average team!

sure why not - might as well wind ye up a bit.
sure ye only beat laois by a lucky goal, laois were humiliated by longford, who are barely able to get 15 lads to tog out most weeks
the dogs in the street will tell you that longford are one of the poorest teams ever to don a football jersey, goin by the formbook ye are only a point or 2 better than one of the "kilkennys" of the football world!!!

hopefully theres a few longfordians around that can confirm the lowly status of their county for us.

listen, its this simple
if we make 2 All Ireland finals in a row, that puts up there as not just a very good team which as all ireland champions we already are, it makes us a great team
And if we manage to WIN 2 all irelands in a row that puts us out on our own as the best team in Ireland in the last 5/6 years
And thats a fact.
And one of the best teams in Ireland in a long long time

I think mcguinness will have leaned the harsh lesson of 2002 when after drawing with dublin the donegal boys made a show of themselves in the replay.
i cant see him allowing that kind of stupidity to go on this time around.
so whether its dublin or mayo there will only be one winner - donegal.

as people have been saying for the last few years, the only good forwards dublin have are the brogans, and when theyre not playing well dublin dont play well. its a simple as that really and to all those dublin supporters who said dublin were just taking it handy and werent getting out of 2nd gear for the wexford, meath and laois games, what happened them today? were the gears not working or something?:)

Well there's goes the two in a row it was nice thought while is lasted. Still see there's a few bitter posters but Dublin fans are well used to that at this point. Looking forward to Mayo vs Donegal final should be a cracker well done both teams consistency won the day . Still shouting in a final as Dublin are there again with the minors.

it sad to see fallen teams like kerry and tyrone trying to put the boot in to dublin who fought like champions to the end today.
for does who say dublin have no forwards well if you had a brain in your head you would look at the way they were set up we have been far too defensive all year and playing only 3 natural forwards but when we went into a proper 6 man forward line for the last 20 minutes the proof was there that the attacking style still works better we outscored mayo 9v2 in the last 20 minutes its a pity gilroy hadnt got more confidence in his forwards from the start.
next year we well could see anew manager at the helm and if its dessie farrell i would expect a return to the attacking style of play like he does with the minor team
with forwards such as alan and bernard brogan, connolly, kilkenny, mcmannoman,o gara and cormac costello who has been on fire in the minor championship i think we could have a very strong forward line without playing a defensive half forward line

Haha

Dublin lads...

Hats off to you for fighting the cause

But we werent good enough this year

Simple as that

Dont worry we'll be back. Young team thats going to be around for a fair few years.

The lads fought to the end today. They've put in a huge effort for the past 3 years... time to let them have a rest.

Now get yourselves some tickets because we've a couple of AI finals to attend yet. Plenty on this site cant say that.... let them get their digs in now.

We went out fighting... we defended our title better than the last two AI Champs.

I feel for Mayo. They'll be watching another AI final loss...they dont have the system to beat Donegal.

If you have Sam Maguire sitting in your trophy cabinet by October, you deserve to have it. A team might get one flukey game, possibly two, but forget 3 lucky games. Dublin deserved their All Ireland last season, and in my opinion should have beat Kerry by alot more in the final.

I don't like putting the boot into any team. Pat Gilroy turned Dublin into a formidable outfit, I think they just lacked hunger this year in a way many champions suffer. However their comeback against Mayo today showed the damage they can do, if only it was a bit earlier in the game they might have swung it.
