(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think Mattie is class but I agree with Lifford gael I think wexford are a very poor to average team.I think their time is up they did well to get this far but when they played a hal decent team(dublin) they were blown apart.I fear for them in the next game

Good points on this thread and seems to be a lack of eejits so this might be a good place to address the state of Wexford football.
This team have done more for football than the county board over 20 years. The current top table would like to screw football at every chance and jason ryan got the job because they could not find anyone who`d deal with them. There is currently 5 times as much spent on huling develpoment than football even though there is a seirious amount of underage football talent in the county. Our development squads are thriving-beat kerry recently again they have obstacles placed in there way. The under 16 players were made choose their sport and those who tried play both had to encounter training been put on for hurling when there was a football match. There manager? a famous 96 player. The minor hurlers lost their all irleand QF on the line even though they had 3 of the 96 team in charge. Jason Ryan proves you don`t need to have won AI`s to manage a team. The dual issue is a real problem here given that almost every club is a genuine dual club-I would guess no other county has the same problem. Cork/Galway/Clare have separate areas for the most part. Kilkenny don`t consider football. All in all this team have excelled to get where they are given the obstacles put in their way.

Btw, Mattie won`t get footballer of the year unless he has one more big performance and rigtly so. Red Barry for me(although he was average on saturday) has been our best player this year and should get an all star. Banville and maybe Morris should get a nomination but that`s it.

This year Mattie finished off Fermanagh, Meath, Laois and Armagh with a sudden flourish of scores. This shows how good he has been all through the season. It has not been just the last one or two matches that he has done it. Very little ball came his way against Dublin but he scored 2 fantastic points from play early on. He is almost there.

Footie there is no need to worry about Wexford just worry nabout your own team. Wexford will do fine and will not need your ulcer. It is amazing that all the teams that Wexford played were considered Sam material beforehand. After we beat them they were all rubbish!!! Really amazing!!! Think about it - obviously the penny has not dropped yet.

left corner its the same in kildare when it comes to hurling.we get no help or support whatsoever.and a lot of the time its your own club who are the worst.i do find it hard to believe however when a county can challenge for honours in both codes in the top tier that a county board would rather concentrate on one code.its a shame.

he had a great last 20 minutes and fair play to him he won wexford the game, also good against down. i would say though for him to get player of the year he will have to play in the final. he could well do that but i think it will be the standout performers in semis and final who will be in with the biggest shout of getting the player of the year award. who knows?

Snufalufagus don't be so bitter, anybody can see Matty's a class act. Saying that I do agree with a previous post that Red Barry should get a nod for POTY. Must say I was also very impressed with Michael Meehan of Galway and Aidan O'Mahony of Kerry this year.

I mean exceeding expectations so to speak...they have an excellent Forward line and decent midfield but i would worry with there defence which is vulnerable at the best of times!

Mid Mon Man states that Monaghan have no good footballers, and on this I would have to disagree with him.

The best players in Ireland do not play for the four teams in the All Ireland semi. In a normal year Matty Forde would spring to mind, Declan Browne in the past, Steve McDonnell, Paddy Bradley, Benny Coulter, and that's just for starters. The best full forward so far has been Clarke.

Patrique, by all means quote me and show me where I "state" that monaghan have no good players, It certainly doesn't sound like something I'd say!
If you're referring to my post about the player of the year, I think you took it the wrong way. I don't mean all the best players play for the 4 remaining teams in any given year, but I was just saying that the best player on a given year will usually come from the winners, or a team in the later stages anyway. Am I wrong? Look at the past winners and are they really undeserving of this accolade, which should go to a player whose team got knocked out in the qualifiers? It doesn't mean that this player isn't a very good player, but why should they win the award ahead of a player who was influential in their team winning an all-ireland?

Could we open a seperate forum or site to enable the removal thereto of some of the brain dead and downrightly insulting and idiotic posters we are encountering. Some of the stuff is at best childish - its posting drivel for the sake of it. Join a religious group or something to get you out more.
