Mattie 75% there. All star guaranteed. Red Barry also. PJ Banville not far away depends on next match.

Matty Forde should have been footballer of the year a number of years ago, when he was carrying Wexford on his own and running up unbelievable scores.

To suggest he gets it now merely underlines the fact that All stars and awards are for "winners" only, and players from teams that get to the semis at least.

The best individual display last week was from Michael Meehan, but his team lost so he is ruled out of all stars and individual awards. If Gooch scores 2-2 in the semi, and 2-4 in the final he will win the award, rewarding winners.

Kevin Brady of Antrim, playing for years for a lost cause, overcomes serious illness and leads Antrim to Tommy Murphy success, now he should be a serious candidate.

Unfortunately such players, and every county has them, won't get a look in as we give awards for glamour and sensationalism.

Its hard to believe the wexford team i saw down in carlow being in an AI semi-final but there you go, sure they might even get to the final now, what a strange turn around that would be from martin storey to mattie forde, what happened the hurling lads?

Wexford set their own limits (AKA Goals/Aims) at the start of the year -

1. to get promoted from division 3 - DONE
2. to reach Leinster Final - DONE
3. to reach All Ireland Quarter Final - DONE

Oh hang on now, sorry. We're actually in an All Ireland Semi Final which realistically, if you think about, we've EXCEEDED our limits that we set ourselves. There's no such thing as limits, only self belief.

Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footsteps on the moon.

Don't think wexford will get more than 2 all-stars, unless they reach the final or whoever loses in final totally capitulates and there's not a mad competition for places. Looks like barry and forde at the minute.

patrique i take your point.but does this mean that players playing for successful teams are going to penalised?where do you draw the line?

Sure didn't Forde get the GPA player of the year in '04 and wexford didn't even make the quarter-finals! The fact of the matter is, the footballer of the year is supposed to be the best player in the country in this particular year, and the best players are the ones who perform on the big stage of croke park in the latter stages of the all-ireland. So the winners usually get it. You might not think its right but thats the way it works.

Yep he seems suited to the bigger men...I would personnally fear for Wexford though if they came up against Kerry...No doubting they have up and coming talent such as Roche(Serious player) maybe a year or two too soon!
