Ciaran McDonald to return?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With all Mayo's injuries and Macs stunning form in the Mayo club championship there are rumors circulating that Ciaran McDonald may be making a come back for the Dublin game. Do you think he still has it in him and would it be a wise move?

There'll be legs in this one yet....the sight of that dublin jersey will get him in top gear straight away! Still a class player.

He's 37 years old and hasn't played championship football in 3 years ,Mayo club football is alot different to an All Ireland semi final .backward step in my opinion Mayo are flying without him.

absolute and utter rubbish , with McDonald and even Mortimer its all about them rather than the team , I really like what Horan's done with this Mayo side , he has made them a really unit where its emphasis on the team rather than individuals much like Pat Gilroy has done with Dublin , Horan was right to drop Mortimer from the team , the top teams carry very few physically small forwards these days with the exception of the Gooch who is exceptional which shows that in order to be a small forward to survive in todays game you must be outstanding ie Gooch , Jamie Clarke .....unfortunately for Mortimer he isn't in the same bracket as these two in terms of quality which is why Horan was right to drop him because Mortimer just doesn't have the pace , size or workrate for todays game , as for McDonald he just hold on to the ball far to long which would just play into the hands of Dublin and Donegal

It's funny when players retired everyone only remembers there good games. I remember him having stinkers and being slated by the Mayo supporters, but since he's retired they only remember his point against Dublin and that has made him a legend even doh they bet an average Dub team at the time.

He was asked at the start of the year if he would be available for consideration, he said no. So there isnt a hope in hell of him being there in 2 weeks time. He wouldnt have the legs for the game mayo currently employ anyway. At 37, he would have had to have been training all year at that standard to be ready to do it now. Also, this notion that mcdonald played only for himself is rubbish. People are just buying into the stereotype here. He was actually a real grafter who never shirked a challenge.
