ULSTERMAN & GATEKEEPER.......you amuse me no end!!! I think you must both lead very introverted sad lives. I accept it has been a very wet summer and one tends to stay indoors BUT you two should get out in the fresh air more often. You do regularily let your province down with your constant negativity. Ulsterman....what County do you represent or are you just a provincial mounthpiece for spouting garbage? Eaglehaslanded cork
Theeaglehaslanded, I ran 8 miles this morning and got plenty of fresh air, thanks for your concern! Your self-righteous blather means little to me lad, I'm just here for the craic! Go off there now and get yourself a sense of humour, ;)

MesAmis Peter Cananvan was a great player. Cooper is a great player. But I suspect double standards from the Tyrone lads. You are only judging Cooper on the games that Kerry have lost and saying why didn't he go and win the game on his own. Why not apply the same high standards to Canavan? Did Tyrone win every game that Canavan played in?
You have hit the nail on the head MesAmis, and the fact that it has gone a full page and nobody has responded to you underlines that point

Never been a fan of Brolly but he certainly got it spot on this time!!
Also interesting to see gooch wearing the number 14 as captain due to the fact that kerry knew since playing Dublin last year that they better not mess with the old number 13 píseóg again this year and try a new tactic to try and get cooper a chance to lift SAM!.....sadly it will never happen now!! Oh well!!
Well done Brolly.....best pundit in Ireland!

There is no doubt that Cooper is a great player, but he is not the greatest! Canavan almost won an all-ireland single-handedly in 95, he was surrounded by a team of good but not great players! He was Tyrone's greatest forward, all-round footballer and leader!
Cooper is one of the greatest forwards of all time, but not the greatest footballer! In all his years playing for Kerry he has been surrounded by amazing players like Galvin, Tomas, Dara, Moynihan eg. He has not been able to rally Kerry and pull games out of the hat like say Paul Galvin, Tomas/Dara O'Se or Seamus Moynihan could. Each of those lads are ahead of Cooper for the title of greatest Kerry footballer.
The title of greatest player of all time is subjective and down to personal opinion anyway, my choice would be Declan Browne, probably someone you have never heard of themaster!
There's your response son. ;)

Get out more? Did about 30 miles at the weekend over the Antrim hills, Antrim is the most beautiful county on this island bar none. I see many of my friends from the 26 counties agree given the very welcome abundance of Southern registrations on the Antrim coast. Anyway Joe was correct about Kerry who remain a great football county and always will be. As Michael Corleone said in The Godfather "It's strictly business, nothing personal".

I have always had great respect for Kerry, and some of the outstanding players to grace their great teams down the decades. I do consider Gooch as one of the modern greats, and i think Tomas O Se is still outstanding despite his age. A truely great defender.
Brolley's comments may have been taken out of context, but it's been clearly offensive to the people of Kerry. Joe Brolley is known for tongue in cheek comments on RTE, he is a Northern version of Pat Spillane i suppose. Spillane has been disrespectful and rude towards Ulster teams for their style of football down the years. But i dont see Pat Spillane as a voice for Kerry fans, never have for that matter. He sometimes speaks the truth, but other times he is biased and unfair. Brolley can also be described in such a manner.
We may not fear Kerry up here, but the vast majority of Northern GAA fans talk of kerry with a great deal of respect.

Ha, that is some awful rubbish thegatekeeper. So you are actively punishing top players who played in good teams, because of the other lads in the team. What nonsense. Maybe you struggle to see the gooch's ability when he has good players around him, but really that is your problem. I can see he is the best forward to ever play in my lifetime, no matter who are his teammates. These measures that you use are highly spurious: 'Canavan almost won an all-ireland single-handedly in 95, he was surrounded by a team of good but not great players' Was that where he picked the ball off the ground and cost them the trophy? Also you say he was tyrone's 'greatest forward, all-round footballer and leader', but the gooch is the very same for kerry, and you urself pointed out that kerry have far better individuals, so isnt it actually a bigger accomplishment for the gooch to earn that mantle? Not that these one off instances should count in the first place, I am just pointing out that we can both go down that road. The truth is both have had bad games and good games, like everyone else, so these tit-for-tat exchanges that you deal in are pretty pointless. One thing that is worth noting, it is only ulster posters who are saying canavan is better than the gooch, posters from every other province say the opposite. I am from mayo, a connaght county. We have had no issue beating ulster teams, in fact it is kerry who we cannot get around, the gooch's county. Why would I have a bias against ulster before munster? The truth is I favour neither, I am just telling you the truth of the matter, the gooch is the best forward I have ever seen, and as regards a football brain, is the only genius that the game has produced in my memory.
Then you say the answer is subjective, so why are you arguing then? Oh wow, Declan Browne, such a mystery! At this stage I wouldnt be surprised if you suggested Mrs. Brown.
By the way, are you saying declan browne is better than peter canavan, son?

1238824 Joe Brolly is a very astute Gaelic football commentator. Last week he stated that when teams believe they can beat Kerry the Kingdom blinks first and that often costs them. He was castigated, abused and ridiculed from all quarters but today he has been completely shown to be correct. Donegal stared Kerry in they eye, took them, believed AND they won well. I hope that Spillane, Michael Lyster and The Sunday Game apologies on air to Joe Brolly tonight. Kerry are a great football county but they are human like the rest of us; it's time they accepted that.
Brolly said that in the last ten minutes Kerry would blink first. They didn't. They outscored Donegal in that time but had too much left to do. Donegal winning was no great shock and Brolly predicting this hardly make him and astute commentator. Lots of people had Donegal down to win. To think the result was a major shock or that Brolly is the Oracle doesn't say much for yourself.
