Joe Brolly Vindicated

Omaghredhand and ros2013 cheers for the unbiased posts, we did well to come back today, maybe the line messed up a few times but Donegal deserved their win. As for ulsterman, I'd rather shove my thumb up my arse rather then respond to your usual bitterness.

I disagree gatekeeper. The GAA will not help another county win an all Ireland like the way they help Dublin. Somehow they think Dublin winning al, Ireland's helps the GAA.

Yep J.Brolly is vindicated with his 1 single All Ireland Medal to pass judgement on the greatest player ever Gooch Cooper!

haha Dublin didn't need any GAA intervention when we wiped the floor with you lads last year and I don't think there can be any complaints regarding who the ref was favouring that night , at the end of the day Dublin are in a semi final and Tyrone are out...............

this really make me laugh....

ye haven't a clue some of ye. Get down to your local pitches and practice kicking points like the Gooch. See how ye get on....

Then imagine the best player from the opposing side being placed on ye in a high pressuere situation.

gooch Cooper. greates forward of his generation. Go home the critics

The Gooch is a quality player. There is no doubting that but to call him the greatest ever would belittle past greats that have made our game stand the test of time.

To me in terms of skill and technique Peter Canavan ticked all the boxes - he stood up when he needed to be counted. Frank McGuigan was a natural footballer as well

Then you have the Greats of the Kerry Dublin era of the 70's. WJ Padden of Mayo, Stafford, O'Rourke and Flynn of Meath. Thompkins of Cork/Kildare the list goes on

Its impossible to compare players from different generations. Gooch will be remembered as a quality player but as the greatest I dont think so

As for Brolly - I have always taken what he said with a pinch of salt but the man does know how to read and call a game.

And finally to the dublinhurlingman who claims Tyrone are finished - Kerry lost Bryan Sheehan today to injury and they crumbled - no free taker - Tyrone played the majority of 2012 without three of the best forwards in the country two of them still in their early 20's -Sean Cavanagh, Kyle Coney and Ronan O'Neill

Tellme any other county that would compete at the highest level without their key players?? Kerry lost one player today and were found wanting. Tyrone are far from finished

The history books will say Kerry lost by 2 points, but the goal which gave kerry the impetus was illegal it was a square ball.

Now Colin Copper is a very good player but the greatest is a bit too far.
Now joe brolly will and can do your head in, but he is entitled to his opinion, and to say he has only one all=ireland is petty statement, so only those with 5 plus all-irelands can speak and debate...... which means that noone here on the hogan stand can post...

It doesn't matter if Brolly was vindicated or not but he's entitled to his opinion, even if Michael Lyster doesn't like it.....

Now some Kerry posters comment that Kerry were missing /had injured players - this is when your 'greatest player takes it to the opposition. A good player can look great in a v good team. But we all know can a goog player do in a weak/average team.
Peter Canavan was the main/only player in Tyone for years and looked what he did in th 95 final.

Surely the first rule when correcting another persons spelling would be to make
sure your own spelling is flawless! Your mistakes have been underlined for your perusal.

The admin won't let me post the rest of what I wanted to say!

Dubs hurling 7: what do you mean you don't like the way Donegal play football?; they are entitled to use whatever system they like once it get them success. They don't have the financial or playing resources the likes of Kerry, Cork or your own Dublin have, so more power to them and in Jim McGuinness they have a magnificent manager. I hope they go on to win the All-Ireland and if they do it will be a tremendous victory for the "small man" in such an inequitable system where the counties with the greater playing and financial resources tend to win out every year,. I am sick and tired at seeing the same old faces at "Up for the Game" every year. The current system is a form of sporting apartheid and I'm surprised the players have put up with it for so long. I admire the sheer skill and craft of Kerry but am glad they are out of it because they have had far too easy a run to many of their All-Irelands in the past, maybe (and not always) with just one serious team to beat before they got to an All-Ireland final, whereas the likes of the Leinster and Ulster teams had to go through several punishing games before they reached the same stage. No serious sport would run its competition the way the GAA does with inordinate gaps between games for some teams and only a week or two for others. Let's have some equality here!

Och stop talking sense cuchullain it'll only confuse some of them even more. Yes Brolly can grate a bit but 99% of the time he's bang on the money and very accurate in what he says. Today his newspaper column exactly predicted what would happen in this game and the lack of respect he gets from the wider GAA community and southern media is appalling. It comes down to the 'outside Nordie' syndrome that goes through a lot of their heads in which they refuse to accept or acknowledge that anyone 'not of the state', especially the rough Northern types, has a legitimate opinion on Gaelic games or Kerry. It's no surprise Joe is so good at this because he comes at these games with his analytical barrister head on.

Well obviously peter canavan name comes up about great players but cooper has been judged on all irelands won and not lost that means canavan had two good years 2003 and'05 . if he was such a great player how come only two all irelands then. Also brolly mentioned cavanagh scoring 5 points in '08 but he is gone missing since too. So if anybody has a better player in the last ten years let us know cause i dont know anybody who has done what cooper has on the field.

Colm McFadden was the main man today with a performance that will echo down the ages. He ceased the day and led his team from the front in a titanic struggle. It can be easy to look great when the opposition lie down in front of you and you can be a fancy dan but to perform when the pressure is highest and in a tight game that is where true greatness shines true.
Canavan in 2005 is a great example and Mcfadden echoed it today.
