Un-noticed / Under-rated abilities of a footballer...

Aaron Kernan did some good analysis last Sunday night on one of the Meath backs whose tackling (based on 5 clips) seemed to be pretty good & was something I hadn't picked up on in the course of the game.

That was Donal Keogan, 21, first year for Meath Seniors. He has a great ability to disposes without fouling, and also forces his man to over carry with the pressure he puts them under. He marked Mikey Conway and then Johnny Doyle out of it v Kildare and then Kevin Mc v Dublin. He was named today in the Indo's team of the Championship so far.

yeah it was donal keoghan, all panelists basically said he was motm but that it had to go to winning team so they gave it to brogan, which while he was good on sunday the best individual performance came from keoghan at 21 he is some player

That's him. I rewound the Sunday game then, watched the highlights again & saw what Kernan was talking about. Kernan is a huge addition to the Sunday Game panel, his realism is a difference to McStays 20 year old views & Spillane's 30 year old views. McStay & Spillane are fine, but for me anyway I prefer an analyst to tell me something I don't know, than something I do.

Kernan did just that & I feel the clips he picked out would make excellent coaching clips.

Im not talking about under-rated players

I'm talking about qualities a player posseses which are under rated/not noticed half as much when watching games on tele , Ie movement from a forward and reading the game as a defender. These are two qualities which give a player that head start .. and are great qualities to have. Some players have better movement and anticipation than others , Some defenders read the game better too..

In terms of work going unnoticed, then please check out the wing forward with his tongue hanging out charging back to defend the weak defensive side when the opposition has possession.
The weak side is the one opposite to the where the play is progressing. This wing forward plugs the space to cut out the option of a diagonal ball and also allows the other defenders to cheat slightly and cover more speace.
Pure hard work for the wing forward who's own game suffers but it is a huge help to the team....Donnacha Walsh from Kerry is excellent at it.
