Waynol just a question for ya. 4 of the forwards we have starting on sunday played the last time we met, reilly 4/5 points from play, joe n farrell and bray all netted goals against the better goal keeper. Do you really think that they will fear them?
Btw totally agree re kevin reilly a outstanding ff.
As for confidence ? Yeah I'm confident, its a leinster final for gods sake. Maybe we will get hammered ala 95 maybe we will hammer them ala 10 or maybe in 4 weeks time we will still wonder where the cup will reside. Like 21 years ago and that was round one.
In these games form goes out the window. In 96 meath faced defending ai champs dunlin with the likes of jayo and other superb players and we won with a young inexperienced team. It does sound familar. I actually said at beginning of this thread I didn't think we would win , I was home today and I seen the excitement the kids in jerseys. This means more to us, I know that and although that seldom transfers to success , I just think it may this time.
So yeah I am going on sunday with hope and belief. Its better than saying we haven't a hope. I aint been this excited in ages.
So lads of the royal county in the words of some american dude, YES WE CAN.
Maybe it means more to me personally cause I haven't missed many meath games home or away for last 30 odd years and the fact a game in navan is a 80 mile round trip for me cause I aint lived in meath for a long time.
Come on meath. Hell ya.

If Dublin play as good as they can, well then it won't matter what we do I'm afraid..
I just hope(if we do lose),that we can bounce back the following week...

Royaldunne for such a big Meath man and supporter how come you abandoned your county? Don't tell me someone as slick as you couldn't persuade your dolly to live in Meath?

That is very true ziggy, but we have to be a hopeful.

By the way Cian Ward was dropped v Kildare last year, then scored 4 goals v Louth, any bets for him to come off the bench with 20mins to go and bag a few goals!

I have seen many false dawns from Meath since 2007.Some good victories (like Dublin and Tyrone) and then terrible displays. We could win on Sunday, but could easily be beaten and then be out of the championship come next Saturday evening! We have to be consistent before I can really trust this team..

Of course I am hopeful, but I was very confident against Kildare around this time, but more hopeful against Dublin.I think Dublin will perform really well on Sunday..

I agree consistency is the key.
Lads and lasses from dublin a quick one for you , could you tell me is the hide out still there or is it gone? It was one mad place but great for the pint in particular in the 80s as a younger lad if you get what I mean. Just wondering.

Big call by Banty to drop Ward, theres no fear in the man! Anyway Ward could be a good impact sub as was highlighted by another poster. I'm wondering will the backs line out as numbered.

Giles was writing in the Indo and has been saying exactly what I have been saying for ages, the good old days will not be back until we are challenging for silverware on a consistent basis.

Wayno dont be talking about humble opinions....you wouldnt know a humble opinion if it bit you on the arse and said "hello, I am a humble opinon"

And re your point re Gooch being the only current "great" player......so you dont think Stephen Cluxton and Padraic Joyce are great players?
You talk some amount of rubbish!

Breffni....once again you let the mask slip. You just cant help yourself. But go on, tell me again how you live in Dublin and have a gra for the Dubs.....course you do!

You going Sunday Breff? Where do you have your pre match sup? Your a fella I would genuinely love to have a pint and a chat with! Myself ureself and Holymoly could spend hours talking Gah I'd say :)

We could get young wayno to be the glass collector. Get us a packet of dry roasted there Wayne, thanks. Good man.

I agree Bernie is and will be a great after all he won us an all-ireland which we haven't been able to get over the line for a long time! I'm not saying he won it on his own ort anything like it but he was are highest scorer!

As for best forward in 40 years....I still think Dessie holds that title for me....maybe its to do with longevity and commitment to the cause! I'm not saying Bernie can't get there in the next few years tho! Dessie faded in his last few years when Dublin kept on wheeling him out because we lacked genuine forwards but don't forget the player Dessie was in his prime!

I think you should be allowed to call someone a great player without people thinking you're calling them a "legend". Just because you may say "he's a great player", it doesnt necessarily mean you're calling him a "great" in the gaa. I think people are getting confused by this. . . :L

Well the entire county of Meath feel they only have to turn up for this match and they'll win it. All the pressure is on them.
Maybe they have a point, after all, this division 3 team always raises their game against the Dubs. It's something that the bookies seem to have forgotten and for this reason I would say Meath are the favourites for this game.
I think Meath will go for goals, it'll end up 8-1 to 2-18 in Meath's favour I reckon.
Can some of the Meath lads handle the pressure of being in the lead at a packed and noisy Croke Park though?

Irrespective of the result, what a great experience for our young lads, playing in Croke Park against the All Ireland Champions in front of 70,000 people, something that some players in other counties at the end of their career have never got, depending on their county/province. This is what its all about and as T Giles said we a have a team to work with for the next few years, so this experience will only make them better footballers. What more could you want. Up the Royals.

How did I let the mask slip haha? I do have a gra for the dubs I just don't lose the run of myself about any of their players. I haven't criticised any of their players here, just said that Paddy Christie wasn't an all time great (in the context of waynes post) and that Trevor Giles was a better player than the Brogans. Thats more complimentary of Giles than critical of the Brogans!

Might go. Don't usually go for pints before games myself. Sure like yourselves, I could spend hours talking gah with anyone! Was at Bruce Springsteen the other night and spotted Bryan Sheehan in the crowd and it kicked off about an hours worth of Gah talk with the people I was with. I would've missed the guts of the gig if was anyone else but the Boss!
