Yeah I agree Graham Reilly would have to perform over a number of seasons and improve to be great, but Paddy Christie??? You cannot be serious!

I do agree with you,Meath fans cannot say this fella is great and that fella is great, until we win stuff on a consistent basis,or challenge for an All-Ireland on a consistent basis.
Yes I believe we have potential and some very good players, but every team knows that you have to go out and be able to win games on a consistent basis.Dublin have achieved this in this era,Meath haven't done that.A win for Meath on Sunday would be a step towards that, but only a step.

To be fair Trevor Giles is one of the most intelligent footballers ever to have played the game. One of the reasons why I hate the media comparing Damien Carroll to him,Carroll will do well to be half the player Giles was.Not his fault though..

I shouldnt need to justify a post to you in which my opinion is already explained, However i will anyway. I was saying that people who think Graham Reilly is a great player at the age of what 22 need to just calm down because despite his undoubted talent he is still only learning and has alot more to do, learn and achieve before being labelled as a great. When i mentioned great players i didnt exactly think

My main point which if you read it again is that despite what people are saying about meaths forwards and Dublins forwards , At the end of the day they are only as good as their last game. if you can stop the supply to either set of forwards they will look alot worse than they probably are. if dublin manage to stifle the supply and get tight on their men they will make meaths forwards look average and will be half way to winning the game and vice versa

Paddy christie was my hero growing up at full back , he always stood out for me so thats why i labelled him as a great , and he was .. not saying other players arent great he is just one of many dublin players who could be labelled as such. in my humble opinion

now is that ok for ye Liam

If Carroll was to become HALF the player that Giles was, itd make him an all star.

In fairness you cant go calling players "Greats" when they are still in the middle of their footballing careers. For all we know Bernard Brogan could could play for the next 5 years and be very poor. Its unlikely of course, but no one knows. If Graham Reilly plays with the same consistency and skill for the next 10 years he could well be one of the greats in meath football. But for god sake he's only 23.

Thats him told! If not for your input and level head poor Graham might not even be in the starting 15!

Wayne you're right about Christie, he was some player. Meath greats? Look no further than Martin O'Connell, Mick Lyons, O'Rourke, Flynn and Stafford for me! When you played against them it stayed with you for days after.

Paddy Christie's father played hurling and football for Meath. From Rathmolyon, Paddy senior also acted as a Meath hurling selector at the same time the young fella was playing football against Meath.

I'd agree with that re reilly. He is a great player and has potential to be one of the greats. He is no giles or geraghty. Both of whom I played against and imo the 2 greatest meath players of all time. But you cannot determine someone's greatness by accolades. I rate gary connaughton of westmeath as one of the greatest goal keepers of all time, what has one leinster and a all star? But yet he is a great keeper. I do fully expect biggy to be mentioned in the same breath as our great players in 10 years. For now let's enjoy watching him play and in years to come we can say we saw graham biggy reilly playing.
And of course the remember the lf of 12 when he took dub defence apart just like he did 2 years earlier. (Well I hope anyway) lol

From what you and many of us have seen of Biggy so far looks promising , but i wouldnt predict that in ten years time he will be mentioned in the same breath as giles and GG because fact is you could easily be seeing the best of him now. If any of the Reillys are going to be in that list anyway id predict its going to be Kevin. What a full back.

Royaldunne & Co...waynoI is on the Dublin page and he doesn't even know what club Fennel plays for, so I would take what he says about our players with a pinch of salt.

I've had very little time to post on this thread, absolutely flat to the boards at work, nearly wish I was part of the recession at this stage, almost feel left out!

So anyway that bladder aside, I can't wait for this match, as far as I'm concerned it's our biggest game since the All-Ireland final in 2001, a game which turned out to be a sharp turn in the wrong direction for us. So priority number 1 is the bloody game, after that I'm hoping to see some signs that we're going to dine at the top table again......not a lot to ask for then :-)

But I am a realist, you can only take a team a player etc etc on their merits and lets call a spade a spade here, we've been notoriously hot and cold since our mini re-emergence in 2007. I'm also not getting in anyway carried away by our good win over Kildare because I think they were caught in the headlights of being heavy favourites when our recent results showed there wasn't a lot between the teams, Meath at 4/1 was a crazy price.

Dublin are the best team in the country but they're also there for the taking, this is a final, not a formality so I hope our lads get stuck in early and have a good go. I want see the passion and hard knocks that I grew up watching in Meath v Dublin games, a couple of head bandages wouldn't go astray, but that could be too much to ask for. 11 years is an unimaginable wait for a Meath v Dublin Leinster final so lets hope they give us something to remember......and of course that Meath wins........UP DA ROYAL!!!
