Well what was that??? Think we went in completely complacent. Think some thought they just had to show up. Well the problem was to many big players didnt just show up. To many bad performances throughout. We were not just at the races at all. Midfield killed us. Meath took their chances and we just didnt. All the best to meath. Dont think Dublin were anything to spectacular today against wexford either and wexford will rue their missed chances. What can I say time to regroup...looking forward to seeing who we will get tomorrow morning. We are the experts in the qualifer route after all ;)
Low enough attendance there today.

Hangsanwhich

Fair play to Meath today for a great display of of their traditional values of heart, high fielding and taking their chances with conviction.
I couldn't believe the Wexford supporters were shouting so vociferously for Meath. Afterall we have no baggage with the Slaneysiders down the years. But now its dawned on me that the SJ saga has turned people against Kildare because they see it as going against the spirit of GAA. Whatever about the morality , from the word go, it sends the wrong message to the forwards that are challenging for a starting spot. "We dont believe in you" is the message from management and this modern day legend from Cavan is gonna wheel in "big show style" and knock you out of the team without so much as a minute of league play. Its a joke, that is not a healthy sporting mentality to bring to a team set-up and now for the first time in years Kildare lost without displaying their usual fight. If we were world beaters then this would be a lot easier to take but when the team spirit of a team like Kildare is threatened then they don't have much hope.
On the morailty side of it I dont agree with it either as Kildare should win or lose with players that are 100% involved with county through birth or work/club. If it proves that we're not good enough. We take our beating and walk away with our heads held high, that's sport. This management set-up have forgotten what sport is about. I hope I speak for a lot of Kildare supporters.

I doubt very much that this wrote by a Lilly.

What can I say our six 21 year olds proved a treat. Keoghan at 21 was top class at corner back marked J Doyle out of it when he was on him. Carroll was excellent at 11, reminds me of Giles. Tobin showed real Meath fighting spirit. Forde was causing serious problems, his marker was changed three times I think. And what can I say never thought Gillespie had that in him.

The biggest laugh for me was when Dermot Earley (I think it was him) took Menton out of the game, then Reilly came on for him and caught the three balls that were launched in to the square, this is the same Reilly that came limping onto the field in a tracksuit before the match with his boots in his hands, didn't even warm up. So well done K Reilly and Menton.

Looking at Kildare today I'm not really sure where they are at now, probably fitter than Meath, far more athletic with possibly a bit too much work done on weights and bulking up. Today was a victory for footballing ability because nobody can deny the fact that Meath do have NATURAL footballers.

Great & well deserved win for Meath

Conor Gillespie my MOTM, destroyed Kildare midfield.

After the poor show from the Dubs (Wexford missed enought to win by 6/8, ) Meath red hot favs for Leinster.

Ok I've done a bit of gloating but I won't do anymore (well not that much). I probably more than any other meath supporter have taken more crap than anyone else on hs over past couple of weeks.
I had said meath were not that bad, the league was a freak, we should have beaten or drawn with both kildare and galway and we would have been promoted, instead we gave away silly late winners and were relegated.
Banty has had luck the new young players have fitted right in and are playing with heart and a couldn't care less attitude. And above all they are talented. Kildare are over hyped by media and there fans bought into it. There are a lot of problems in kildare gaa that need a clear the air meeting. Something that has helped meath.
I look forward to the great old rivalry of dublin and meath once again. No matter what outcome its a special day and one my kids will enjoy as much as me. But that's another thread. For today meath were superior in every position, even the kildare goal was a bit fluky. But meath went up and scored the next 2 points. That shows spirit and old meath values are back. At end of game the astonishing thing was meath were the ones with pep still in there step and looked the fitter outfit.
To kildare supporters I wish yous well , but if kildare are to improve they need to have a conversation within county. It can't be what I say goes, there has to be consensus. Anyway best of luck for remainder of year.
Ps if anyone knows lillypad will you check to see if he is ok.

Have to agree with yew_tree back there. Kildare are a overhyped average team. Cant remember the last time they beat one of the big powers in the champanionship!!!!!! Have a lot of friends in Kildare and for the last 2-3 years all are saying they are all-ireland contenders every year. Would winning a lenister title not be a more realistic target. They have very few natural footballers. So Kildare fans, I think ye all need to lower your ambitions now!!!!!!!!!

Fair play to meath. Played some great football from there defence right threw to there forward line were good. They gave the lillywhites nothing and were worthy winners in the end...

@kelf

Business as usual. I should point out that Dublin also missed enough scores to have won by 6/8.

I am delighted for Banty and for Seánie especially. Absolutely delighted. I hope An Cabhán are drawn against Cill Dara in the next round and An Cabhán stuff them. Delighted.

looks like many of the 'big boys' on the meath team are limping out because they know full well that the challenge that faces their county is an impossible one..............this appears to be an all too common trait that's present in the current meath crop of players...............soft, spineless and useless.........sending out boys to do a man's job........shame on them for letting their county down AGAIN !!!!

Eat some humble pie Gammy! Im sure you will have a great summer over there in the USA with most of the Louth team. make sure ye tune in to the Leinster final, should be a cracker!

great win today for the royal. hardluck to all the lillies except those who were on here mouthing off for the past few weeks. it was almost not worth saying we had a chance because that would make us deluded right? Kildare will win their next game and I'd expect them to be facing either clare, down, sligo, meath or dublin in the last round of the qualifiers. we haven't seen the last of them yet and it would be foolish to rub salt in the wounds.

Very good performance by Meath today, serious potential in thid team,BUT we need to show consistency and stop losing against teams lesser than us. We are different in the championship than the league. You gotta hand it to Banty to be fair. The young players were outstanding today.Gillespie was top class ,but we need a partner for him.. Also we have good impact subs. Will be close against the Dubs..

Good win for meath, great game for the neutral to watch, meath really played football ,some lovely fielding , interesting before the game kildare lads hitting pads with their bodies and pushing players to get ready for game, reminded me of dubs doing something similar before kilkenny game think it is getting too much.
good to see little skinny legs (meath young lads)going up the pitch soloing the ball for a change.
