Tyrone v Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

firstly , it was a cracking game featuring everything that is great about football such as commitment , briliant point scoring , great passing , passion etc but also featured some of the worst aspects of football such as diving which many have alluded to already , for me all this diving was done by the Tyrone team with the main culprits being Colm Cavanagh , Mark Donnelly and Conor Gormley , this diving was consistantly bought by referee Joe McQuillan hence the number of scores Tyrone amassed from frees many of these frees very questionable , Armagh weren't completely innocent I didn't like the syncial manner in which they went about trying to take Peter Harte out of the game.
Armagh do have the makings of a good team though , I was very impressed with Toner , Forker , Duffy and Raffertey in patches .....disappointed with Mckenna and also disappointing not to see young Jamie Morgan and that Charlie Vernon wasn't on earlier , thought Brendan Donaghy , Malachy Mackin were very poor , Kernan was playing a bliner up until he had to go off , same with Dyas who was orchestrating the play very well until this moment of madness , Armagh badly missied Ronan Clarke up front , Armagh needed another outlet up front besides Jamie Clarke as Mallon was spending most of his time deep and the same with Raffertey .
In the end it was Kevin Dyas' dismissal and Tyrone's synical play which decided this great match

could the Down folk get a life, that was the two best teams in ulster on show today. Jamie Clarke is absolutely unmarkable and i look forward to seeing the defender who can shackle him this year. I dont know how far we will get and we certainly have a massive, massive amount to improve on but if the boys play with that fight and spirit we wont be far off croker. Down are jealous as everyone including themselves knows they are the 5th best team in ulster. I hope we make ulster final and get them, teach them a lesson in peil

Here wee go here wee go Tyrone diving if the foul is committed and the player takes a tumble its not a dive its a foul, secondly I thought the ref let Armagh off with a couple of high neck challenges especially in the first couple of minutes Young Cavanagh was wrestled to the ground from neck high , what did the young lad do ? get up on his feet right away , yes young colm comes in for some stick but today he became a man and bounced of some heavy hits! take a bow son !!! Now bring on Derry or Donkeygal!

First off stekhli, if you are going to label any county as 'synical', lets spell it correctly for starters and then we might just take your view point seriously. FYI the word you are after is 'cynical', meaning people acting in a selfish manner. Trying to apply that word to todays great game betrays a complete lack of understanding of the game as a whole and certainly no appreciation of the finer points of Gaelic Football. Either that or you accidently flicked over to the Italy V Spain match.

Some Tyrone posters losing the run of themselves I think....two best teams in Ulster....?..... Think you're forgetting the Ulster Champions who beat ye out the gate at semi final stage last year...:-)

"jamie clarke is unmarkable"

Far too narrow a lad to be unmarkable.

Lifford Gael you only got to the final last year after you sent on McLoone who took out big JOE who had your forward line such as it was in his back pocket for 60 odd mins , but would love another crack at your boys in the semi final unfinished bizz and no looney tunes on the pitch ......

Didn't get to see the game but by all accounts a great game of football and thats what I'm most pleased about, aswell as the end result of course:) Great high scoring and intense game that was anybody's to win until the last few minutes. With 8 different players scoring for Tyrone today that is the most heartening statistic I take from this game.Having lost some of our best players to injury its great to see that the "team" can still win hard fought encounters like this, and they don't come much tougher than Armagh from a Tyrone perspective.

Half this topic has been garbage. What today proved is we have atleast 5 ulster teams to challenge anyone.

Now whoever said 2 best teams in ulster better think again and also whoever said tyrone were beat out the park last year must not have been at game.
Look forward to hopefully meeting tyrone in semi.

Cavanagh had good first half but he and wee harte will be targetted by derry or donegal. Enjoy the winning while it lasts but 2 best teams in ulster?? Come on

Can armagh beat kerry or galway in qualifiers

Today gave us a very exciting and intense game of football. In my opinion best game of the championship so far by quite a distance and there will be few better games played over the summer. Very impressed with Cavanagh, Joe McMahon, Dermy Carlin, Mark Donnelly, Stephen O'Neill and Martin Penrose. This game will stand to tyrone as the year goes on. However was a bit worried with the defence and their inability to cope with Jamie Clarke, i feel that if Armagh had have had any other forwards to his standard wed be in bother, so i'd be fearful when playing cork or dublin or the likes. However plenty to build on for the next day.

Good exciting game of football today. Both teams played with great passion. Tyrone deserved their win. It was a much more exciting match than the Cork Kerry match. I think if the qualifiers wereon next week and that Armagh got Kerry I know who would win that. Though Armagh at home to their greatest rivals was always going to bring out the best in each other. Two good teams . that game puts Ulster back on the map.I know its too soon to say but Kerry looked very poor today. The gooch was no good either.

Lmao, name the four better?

So we're the most recent team in an Ulster final, and the highest placed in the league over the last two seasons. Armagh were relegated from Div 1 (admittedly without the Cross players), Donegal struggled to stay up, Tyrone were playing in Div 2 this year, Derry struggled in Div 2, Antrim were mid table in Div 3 and Cavan only a point off being relegated from it. Add that to Fermanagh to escaping out of Div 4 and I can't really see 4 teams that are better!

Tyrone are better (maybe) I can admit, arguably Armagh. But nobody else in Ulster.

To let yous all know also, I was hoping you were going to win!

Woah woah, Down jealous of Tyrone????? Well that has made me laugh something shocking.

Would you rather be third in Division one or come top of Division two unbeaten bar the final (been there done that by the way)
Who has most recently got to an All Ireland final?
Who had to depend on the back door to gain two all irelands? (and depend on diving to win another)

To sum it up, Tyrone fans can come back and argue when they have five all irelands to their name.

I can assure you there is no disguise , I am and always have been Armagh should it be Senior football Senior Hurling Senior Camogie and allof the rest of our teams in between. By acknolwedging Tyrone yesterday, I'm been honest instead of carping about trivial points about the game, and causing rancour. Incidentally I supported Down in the 60's after Armagh went out of the Championship. I stood under the Hogan Stand in 1960 and watched Down V Offaly A I semifinal, when James Mc Cartan was fouled OUTSIDE the square, bulldozed his way into the square , lay down, got a penalty. Paddy Doherty , (who is an Armagh man, Poyntpass) , scored from the spot and that was the deciding score of that game and Down went from there and won 3 A I's in the sixties. Offaly were the better team that day and would have been deserving winners That is what Down's record of AI titles is based on . So just maybe we can all look at whatever game we are at, see it for what it is and if we are beaten be the first to call a spade a spade , and help create sportsmanship, fraternal relationships and harmony in our G A A. Thats what I want to see rather than sone of the infantile posts from some folk on here on Hoganstand forum. I can be used for good
