Euro 2012 vs AI Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'm conscious that not all contributors to a GAA forum are into the foreign game aswell like myself but I thought I'd pose the question anyway.

Would you prefer it, unlikely as it is, if Ireland were to win the Euros, or for your county to the AI either in football or hurling?

As much as i love my country and as much as it would be great to win the Euro's, i would prefer to see Galway winning Sam or Liam in a heartbeat.

I would rather Armagh win the All Ireland in Football or Hurling. I'm not a big fan of soccer but I always support Ireland and they have already done the country proud, I was in west Belfast today and the place is covered in green, white and gold for the football so it's great to see so much national pride out there.

I have to say I'd be the same in that I'd prefer a Donegal AI football win.

But what about the likes of young Kerry and Kilkenny fans who also love soccer? Would they forego their almost annual AI win for the sake of an Irish win at the Euros?

Would that be the same gold that is on the Armagh jersey?

I'd take far greater pleasure in seeing Wexford lift Sam/Liam than see Ireland lift the Euro trophy. Fat chance of any of them happening anyway.

That's not to say I wouldn't like to see Ireland do well, to me Soccer is nothing compared to GAA & Rugby but I must admit I am getting caught up in the excitement and build up to it all.

Let's hope the country gets a good lift and has a good laugh over the next few weeks

I am a big Ireland supporter, have travelled to numerous away games and made it to Japan/Korea in 2002. The current team are not the most talented, but they are an honest and hard-working bunch who wear their hearts on their sleeves to represent the country. I would have as much respect for the likes of Dunne and Given as I would for any GAA player.

In saying all that, and recognizing what a boost a Euros win would do for the country, I'd still prefer to see Cork win an All-Ireland, particularly in football. Not sure why but I find as I am getting older that the GAA means more to me than some of the other codes I would have watched equally in the past.

Il take an all ireland over the euro any day but i suppose it may depend where you are from...but it this way would there be more excitment and celebration in your home town or village if your county won sam/liam or Ireland won the euro's??

I s'pose the only agurement is if your county wins AI, your county celebrates

If Ireland lift the Euro, the whole country celebrates

Perhaps there is something to be said for the Soccer after all

(Although I feel like a traitor for saying that)

I have to say I have no interest in it at all and unless I am with people who are watching the matches will not bother. When is it over?

I go to all the Ireland home internationals and have been to a few away games in the past. I'm also a season ticket holder for the Pride of the Northside and I'm going to the Croatia game on Sunday.

However, given the choice I'd rather see Sam or Liam Liffeyside in 2012 then us win the Euros. Obviously I'd still love it if somehow we manged to do a Greece on it!

It could all be over in a matter of 8 days for us!

You have to put your country before your county, any day of the week. Its a no brainer.

I used to go to the odd home game for Ireland over the years, certainly not regularly mind you, but have seen them play in the Old Lansdowne 3/4 times, 2/3 times in Croker and 3/4 times in the Aviva but I've kinda given up on it. Think the last game I was at was Macedonia in 2011, over a year ago now

Nothing that compares to the amount of times I've been to the Wexford hurlers/footballers and Leinster rugby.

But I have to say fair play to you Mes, that's a true supporter talking. Enjoy Sunday.

And like you, I fear our participation will be restricted to 8 days!

Here's hoping we are wrong...
