Myself and friend were once refused by a taxi driver in Newry because we were wearing Dubs jerseys. Evening we beat Derry in the 21s hurling semi final a few years back.

------------

Think that was more to do with WHICH GAA jerseys you were wearing to the fact they were GAA jerseys! In fairness though I'm very surprised, Newry, South Down and South Armagh are very much deep rooted GAA areas and I'm pretty shocked you weren't allowed into the taxi.

1184528 The place has a dress code - get over it.

Yes No GAA jerseys allowed but all other sports jerseys are welcome. Great dress code.

Incorrect Tom you should read the OP again. The fact that it is not just GAA jerseys banned negates any suggestion of sectarianism. Its blindingly obvious that rugby jerseys are not controversial in NI whereas Celtic, Rangers, GAA jersey are. Silly sensationalist nonsense from the useful victim brigade.

no mention that they allow NI jerseys in the piece posted in the OP

Dont believe all you read in here ffgg! Seems far more likely its a prodominantly rugby bar and they dont allow football and GAA jerseys as could lead to trouble between different 'groupings'. Loads of bars in big cities have no 'colours' rules

Lads was once refused entry to club cause I was wearing sneakers??
See my point? I think its more to do with dress code than any sectarian or anti gaa thing. More wanting rugby elite in , middle class few hinos and there happy.
So do I go on and say I was discriminated against ? Nope. I just got on with it as the guy who was asked to leave should.

ffgg, yes 6 county soccer tops and other soccer tops are all allowed to be worn in this place. They have promotions on nearly all year when english soccer matches are on where you can win a soccer jersey etc. During any 6 county soccer match the place is bedecked in their colours and they have big screens erected etc. Pass no remarks of gammyknee, badmonkey or whatever it is he calls himself, he is in the USA and what he knows about this pub or Ireland in general wouldn't fill the back of a stamp.

Reading some of the reviews the place is indeed a complete mess, a place to avoid if your a decent human being. I hear the Queen is going to Belfast hmmmm

Tyronetim- on a side note you said you would take your life in your hands to go to the Four winds, this is simply not true. It is a great bar and has been for a long time. I have drank in it regularly for over 20 years with never a sniff of trouble. Its in a mixed area and has mixed clients. Its in my parish so I know it well.

arock - Can we borrow the banner from Stoksie's Dad's bar for the visit?

Duffer...I wouldn't set foot foot in it, a friends 17 yr nephew was kicked to a coma by a gang because he was a catholic and the bouncers watched.
If you drink in it fair enough but don't agree with view of it and the 4 winds area I wouldn't feel welcome.

Tyrone tim, terrible indeed. When did that happen, if my memory is correct it was a long time ago. Its a fine bar now.

Glad to hear as it's close to me...but Parador for GAA unless your a Carryduff man?
I worked with his uncle so I'd say about 8 years ago. The area and the guys were reported to have links with loyalist paras. but if things have changed I'm delighted.

just to follow up on the wearing of our Gaa jersey's,some persons wear it because they love it and can identify with it,others were it as badge of hate and bitterness. The latter are people who have never been involved with a club, county or any function of Our great Gaelic Culture and will never be a part of Our great Gaelic Culture, but will always be there to bring it down to their gutter level.Futhermore I would like to add a comment on rugby as was said in a TV report when Ulster went to Dublin this year, quote; It can only be good for "OUR" wee "PROVANCE" to go down to the Republic of Ireland to play, correct me if I'm wrong, was this a suggestion of a "6 county Ulster Team",then our funding as Irish people should stop and no longer should the Irish Rugby Squad be selected from their wee Provance to Represent Our Great Country, and then and only then we will get Our National Anthem played abroad.

Alot of bars, hotels, restaurants and educational establishments bar and ban gaa gear from their premises, that's a fact, it isn't right but it happens.

in Newry, the College of Further Education has a strict policy on gaa gear, - a total ban even though there are approx. 90% are from S. Armagh or South Down,
funny thing the college has a fairly sucessful gaelic team

How do you know? and how does wearing a GAA jersey display hate and bitterness?
