Tourist wearing GAA top asked to leave Belfast Bar

That's correct lilywhite1, anyone who knows the place will tell you that it's packed for 6 county games, rugby games, champions league games, english league games and all manner of jerseys from man utd to rugby to linfield are all proudly worn, just don't wear a GAA jersey or an Irish soccer jersey.

Bigotry is still alive and well in the north! Nice bit of deserved bad publicity for the premises responsible!
Disgraceful, ulster rugby jerseys parading around dublin without any trouble. One Dublin jersey in a
rugger pub in Belfast, different story!
It will be interesting to see if it makes bbc ni or utvlive this evening! Like rte they protect the rugger lot!
The north is a difficult place to live in, still!

The owners of Wine Inn's are prominent Catholics..so it comes back to the old chestnut of uppity "Castle Catholics". The family were recently described as nationalists to me but I think this underlines the foly of that notion.

It should be noted for anyone interested in attending this establishment it has the worst service in Ireland even on a quiet night they manage to make you wait a ridulous length of time for a pint.

Its a pretty mixed crowd would frequent cutters. Yuppies and the like, which is why I suppose they're indifferent to the rugby heads.

I'm surprised at this but if the GAA people Boycott this place I guarantee you will soon see a U-turn from the owners. Like I say I'd reckon its a half and half crowd in there. I've seen many a county player in there in the past.

...either boycott, or else everyone wears their GAA jerseys in some day, that'd be a laugh.

While we all admire the progress and achievement in these now-much more peaceful times, we cannot forget it followed 30 years of horrible horrible troubles. People don't forget that in a hurry and no doubt, some people in the North still live very divided lives, politically, socially, religiously. There are always going to be hard feelings after a conflict that went on for so long and something like this seems to be reminiscent of it.

But of course, it's not right, it's despicable in fact. No right minded person should condone this sort of thing. It may take a long time, if ever, for this sort of thing to be stamped out and negative publicity of the establishment in question is to be encouraged. Bars/clubs may think twice about having such house rules if they were widely exposed for having this kind of prejudice in place, and costing them a lot of business. Make them pay through the pocket for this type of conduct.

It's better then trouble in these bars or people being kicked half to death outside it for a jersey

You can bet your bottom dollar it won't be shown on BBC though, but if it happened the other way around it would be headline news. The same way they were all over the fights in the GAA (Garrycastle, Tyrone league final etc) during the Autumn & Winter.

It would be interesting if around fifty people wearing Gaa gear decided to pop in for a pint. I wonder would their principles stick or would business come first. Either way we would be in a better position to judge them. Any buses returning from Sunday's match are welcomed to give it a go.

Organise a 'colours night' pub crawl in Belfast and promote it via the web.
It would be some craic to see a hundred people land into cutter's wearing
st.galls, crossmaglen, carrickmore, dromore, antrim, dublin, kerry, down etc
jerseys! Or boycott the place!

I've pinted in cutters quite a few times and can safely say I will never step foot in the place again.

Glad it wasn't the Pink Dublin Jersey as they would never have messed with the "Pink pound".

This kind of nonsense is de rigueur in some parts here .... it wasn't that long ago the young lad in Tesco Antrim town was asked to put on his jacket by the store manager while doing a Charity bag pack because he was wearing i think a Antrim/Randalstown jersey.
