What do people on here expect? Do you want fans at every gaa game to sit nice and quiet like they are in primary school? Theres nothing wrong with trying to create a bit of an atmosphere be it with singing soccer songs. Im sure the fellas involved were only trying to have a laugh. I think most of the monaghan supporters must have been 50+. Was probably past their bed time! antrimman91 (Antrim) - Posts: 127 - 28/05/2012 13:34:32 1181856 Link 0 |

oh seriously get over it. Grumpy old man is what you sound like. I was at the game yesterday and any Antrim supporters I met were great craic and only added to the atmosphere. Only for the bit of chanting they were at the first half would have been like a wake! farney_exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 71 - 28/05/2012 13:54:55 1181889 Link 0 |
I thought the reason for singing at Soccer matches was because of the slow build ups and general boredom between infrequent shots on goal, most lads with a good understanding and passion for GAA games would hardly have time for singing/chanting at games. Even with the ball out of play or injury stoppages I would have thought that there would be so much to discuss re tactics and marking match-ups. Even in a evenly contested game of rugby I notice songs peter out quickly enough. In fairness though different people get different things out of going to a game & I usually enjoy my drink AFTER a game so I really can't say I have experienced that singing feeling while watching a game rath_togh (Meath) - Posts: 740 - 28/05/2012 14:00:58 1181895 Link 0 |
Ah come on now Pomeroy - we're not all that bad!!!!! And i am one of those who has worn the lovely Hoops at Croker, in the Hill , at a Dubs game no less!!!! tribeinbrum (Galway) - Posts: 4155 - 28/05/2012 14:02:26 1181897 Link 0 |
I don't see what the problem is regarding singing. Ok, booing free-takers etc etc is wrong and needs to be cut out, but getting behind the team in a vociferous manner is surely a good thing no? And as for the'Take it down from the mast' think, it was one lad about 17 and it was fellow Antrim fans who told him to pack it in before it got going srb (Antrim) - Posts: 344 - 28/05/2012 14:35:57 1181949 Link 0 |
Lads give it a rest. What harm does a bit of chanting do? Sure maybe we should all act like bowls fans and sit in dead silence. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 28/05/2012 14:46:33 1181959 Link 0 |

REgarding the Antrim Blue bag supporters at yesterdays game EVERY COUNTY has them my COUNTY has some of the worst offenders , lads and lasses who have a day out in the sun getting hammered , they couldn't tell you one rule of Gaelic football or Hurling , but at the 2009 ulster final I was on the hill with a group of Antrim boys and girls who sang there heart out all threw the game , nothing offensive or political just good banter, I think they were from AP McCoys country Moneyglass more than I could say for one or two in my own group , you can be Magnanimous in Victory but you have also to be Gracious in defeat . fortyfive (Tyrone) - Posts: 5929 - 28/05/2012 15:14:06 1181999 Link 0 |

Have noticed this kind of thing with the dublin supporters on the hill for a good few years now. Arriving late for throw in coz they were watching the end of the man utd game in the pub, singing soccer songs, drinking at the game, swearing, spitting and other such offensive behaviour which is generally associated with the english soccer supporter. Find it quite disgusting myself but i suppose we just have to get used to it whiterbannnas (Mayo) - Posts: 2441 - 28/05/2012 17:53:08 1182172 Link 0 |

Is there a definition of what soccer supporters are? Ive been to 2 EPL games this season(and 1 champions league game) so do i count as a soccer supporter then? I Also went to every NFL game Louth played this year(and our 1 O'Byrne Cup match) and Louth v Westmeath last sunday. i doubt alot of the people on here who call themselves GAA supporters could say that for their own county. theres two different opinions here, are we talking about soccer style chants or Celtic chants as Monaghan fans are know for a few soccer style chants themselves like farney army and I'm sure they had a song for banty when he was in charge, and sure the dubs are known as the best singers in the GAA. I for one don't mind a good sing along as long as its too do with your team don't get me wrong Im a Celtic fan but believe there is no place for Celtic songs in GAA stadia its a bit pointless! You would think these Saffron gaels would have time to come up with a song, after all its a long drive from west Belfast to Clones. brolly_4_pres (Derry) - Posts: 356 - 29/05/2012 11:05:38 1182607 Link 0 |
