Well when Louth have a big day the soccer hooligans come to the fore. Dublin bring a lot of supporters who haven't a clue about football to their games too.

The bandwagon are great for creating atmosphere at the big games but it's a kind of false atmosphere as most of them aren't really bother if their county loses they are just enjoying the day in the sun.

Every time I come back to my local after a Louth game there are people asking me about the game, first of all they are usually surprised I was at the game because they think there is absolutely nobody at league matches. These people won't make the 10 minute drive to watch Louth play using excuses like I'm too busy(sitting in the pub) it's too expensive, they won't win anyway or they'll win that easily yet when the big game comes in the summer like next Sundays against Dublin they will all be there and they'll be able to tell me afterward that Louth are crap and that's why they won't be going to anymore games..Until next summer of course. I really couldn't care less if these type of people stop going to games, I am sick of hearing excuses all year and then criticism of the one game they went to.

The bandwagon is giving the GAA a false sense of how popular the games are at the minute. People are going for the day out not for the football.

Sometimes they can include season tickets in the attendance figures even if many season ticket holders are not at the actual game. This is done in all sports to boost attendance figures. Regular occurance in pro sport

Nearly all of what you have said is complete rubbish.
How does occasional fans going to games create a false sense of the popularity of the game?
This site is fascinated with calling supporters "bandwagoners". All supporters want their team to win, some are more dedicated to the cause. so what if some only go to the championship games and whinge and moan about things, as long as they are not givin abuse to players/supporters they are fine.

Tyrone has many a bandwagon fan, they normally crawl out of their hiding place if we reach Croker, heading down the Motorway to Dublin with their Tyrone colours ablaze. Prob never went to any league game, or even to any Ulster Championship Game. The most annoying are those high profile business type who you know have zero interest in Gaelic football but wouldnt miss the big occasion in their Company box at Croker. Every County has them....

I am a bandwagon GAA fan and a poor enough one at that. I say ive been to about 15 or so tipp games in the past decade, some were league games and some were championship games. have never went to an all ireland final but have went to semis.
I do go to games. rugby games. went to 8 out of 15 home games this season and of the 7 i had my own games on those days so was unable to go to watch Munster.

ormondbannerman so why do you spend all your time on a GAA forum, are you just looking for someone to talk to?

1180748 look. Every team, be it GAA, soccer or rugby has its every game supporters and then the bandwagoners/fair weather crowd. Doesn't make them less worthy. They just choose their games. not worth getting anxious over.

'Nuff said.

Would yous all prefer if everyone stayed at home for the championship as well as for the league?

Some people might only get out and support their county once a year when they get to Croke Park or whatever but at least they do come out. They're a reliable bandwagon!

As a team progresses then they'll get more support. That's only natural. Obviously some of yous would prefer it if the All-Ireland Final was played in front the couple of hundred "real" supporters that turned up for the O'Byrne Cup in January.

Where was all the Meath support in Navan on Easter Sunday?
