Sunday Game coverage

The bbc coverage is much worse thann rte, the game between
monaghan and antrim is bad enough without sidebottom's
meanderings!

Kieran Donaghy and his man get involved in an off the ball wrestling match.
It was innocent enough, just getting to know each other, championship football. say mcstay!
Thankfully morrissey rebuked him saying unsavoury incidents like that doesn't have a place on a
football field! Its interesting how mcstay has a different attitude towards similar 'unsavoury incidents'
depending on which teams are involved in said 'unsavoury incidents'!

Agree Gatekeeper....

Thought Smarty Morrissey had a howler of a game today too.....not able to name the correct players on the ball, a Tomas O Se point credited to Darren O Sullivan, not knowing why frees were given (everything according to Smarty was for 'dissent'....horrendous stuff altogether...!,

The Sunday Game is immeasurably better than BBC Championship. Last week we were advised that Donegal would now meet Derry in the Ulster Semi Final having beaten Cavan in the preliminary round, and this week it was that Monaghan now face Down on June 27th. How can they get the basics so wrong? Don't even get me started on Mark Sidebottom's erratic commentary...

Bit sick of listening to Marty Morrisey at this stage. Althought its refreshing to listen to Newstalks panel. Colm Parkinson is quite entertaining, says it straight enough.

Thought Marty and McStay were shocking: no knowledge of the Tipp team whatsoever, and unbelievably biased towards Kerry. As for O'Rourke and Brolly, they dodn't do analysi, just criticism. The whole format needs to be changed, with some new analysts brought in.

brolly seemed to want to say his bit about kerry whatever happened in the match. it was like someone had been bending his ear the day before about kerrys matches with tyrone.

100% agree them pundits and commentators are just dinosaurs in their way of thinking at this stage i do like michael lyster though and ger canning...thats about it the rest are just useless and joe brolly is the worst of all..
how come they cant bring in players that have played in the modern game and give honest views.
rte use a bit of sense and revamp the thing for a change!

Would have to agree. Very little knowledge of Tipp team (who are not unknowns- they have been excellent at underage level for a few years now), even the pronunciation of their names was very poor. McStay again showed bias and very little knowledge of the game. Time for a change there.

Again, I would question the match selection of RTE. There was only going to be one winner of that game. Does RTE think that they have to show EVERY Kerry, Dublin, Cork and Galway match every year?

One thing that really annoyed me last night was the condesending tone from Tony Davis surrounding Antrim's goal. "As good a move as you wil see anywhere". Can he not just let it stand on its own? It was a class goal and yes someone from poor old Antrim scored it! The highlights are far too short, no stats surrounding possession and if the underdog plays well it is never recognised. The stronger outfit is merely critisised!
Think Colm Parkinson is a breath of fresh air. I would love to revamp the whole show and bring in the Newstalk boys, as in Gilroy, McDevitt and Ciaran Murphy etc.

The Hurling pundits are bigger dinosuars, cyril farrel and ger loughnan. you couldnt listen to them one talking over the other, when farrel gets going he can talk for
4 minutes non stop without taking a breath. RTE need to bring in younger pundits boys that are not long retired and that can bring a different point of view.

RTE are scraping the bottom of the barrell with Parkinson. David must have a short memory too - Tompkins and Fahy were in the team team that won him two AI's. Was there no such thing as Ethos in the Gaa then Tony?

Don't TV3 show most of the early Dublin games?

I like Morrissey, but he seems to be a little off his game at the moment. Was at the game last week, but saw a re-run of Galway-Ros during the week, and when Karol Mannion scored one of the best points of the game early on, Marty credited it, at least twice, to his opposite number, the Galway no9 Greg Higgins. A little embarrassing, as Mannion would certainly be one of Roscommon's better known players, and one would have expected Morrissey to know him automatically. The ensuing kick-out was fielded by Higgins, at which point Marty seemed to realise the gaffe, but didn't acknowledge it. Surprised Higgins didn't win man of match, with that sort of display 'on both sides of the ball'!

i do find the editing of the matches really annoying. especially if you don't know the result in advance. one minute its 3 points to 1 the next its 6 points to 2. then its 7- 5. i think in cavan's game against donegal they only showed 1-4 of cavan's 1-10. and I think that is pretty par for the course. I also thought Dan Shanahan's piece on waterford football was pretty poor (no harm to him). the studio panel don't seem to do any research and trot outthe same old cliches about the lesser teams. des cahill always seems uncomfortable and has not great a great personality for tv.

You have to be joking, Gilroy doesn't even like Gealic.

Yeah Des Cahill is ok but not great. I enjoyed it more when Pat Spillane hosted the Sunday Game.

Nonetheless, I hought the Sunday Game was a bit better last night, Colm Parkinson was ok, there's a kind of cheekiness about him, hard to know if he would be a good pundit week in week out though.

I must say I do like Ciaran Whelehan as a pundit, quite enjoyed his commentary during the League as well. He speaks well, he makes good points and delivers them with bullet-proof examples. I think he deserves a crack at the main program in the afternoon.

Parkinson is a good addition to the Sunday Game Panel.
At least he's honest plus he actually understands the modern game.
All they need to do now is get rid of Tony Davis.
