Moomoo, that's a really stupid and gratuitous point you are making. You'd almost imagine that there were lads in suits driving around Dublin handing out bags of money!

As for your comparison with Kerry. In 2005 we beat you in the Division Two final. ALL of the curent Dublin senior panel were already hurling in 2005 at some level or other, including one or two who were on that panel. So did something magical take place in the intervening seven years?

No. What happened was that we continued to put in the time and the effort in and it is paying dividends. Yes, there are full time coaches but it is the voluntary work on the ground and the fact that hurling is the popular choice of thousands of kids that is making the difference not the money. For every paid coach there are dozens of volunteers who give up thousands of hours every year to promote hurling. That's the difference. Not money. If the enthusiasm was not there the coaches would be talking to empty rooms and empty practise fields.

Ye went into the transfer market to bring in a few lads did ye not? But of course they just so happened to desire they wanted to play for Dublin didn't they?

Attendance figures are well down. Time for the GAA to lower the prices.

7,350 at meath v wicklow
22,068 at thurles for the double header

meath v wicklow was probably down on what people had been saying around 10 thousand they were aiming for
but thurles would be delighted as commentators were saying only 12-15 thousand expected so was good crowd 22thousand

Why Carlow for Meath v Wicklow, surely Parnell Park would have been the obvious choice, rather than dragging meath supporters for 2-2.5 hours drive?

Bad attendances all round again and the Munster council make a statement saying they are happy with the turn out in Thurles. 22K for four counties and two of these in the top 2 in there respective games. Limerick and Tipp should be able to get a bigger crowd on their own. Some posters on here during the week told us with the great Meath support there would be 15k in Carlow, was there even half that?

I am at a loss also as to why this game was fixed for Carlow. I would of thought either Parnell Park or Portlaoise would have been more suitable venues. One thing I would like to say is that whatever few euros the Carlow County Board made from yesterday's fixture they might invest it in improving their toilet facilities. The gents toilets under they stand were absolutely disgraceful.

22K for a home double header, in a big county is poor. I can remember a few years back you'd get double that for Munster Championship games.

Last year we had a double header in Wexford Park, the place was jammed. Would have been 25k or therabouts which is the capacity, and all smallish counties involved - ourselves, Kilkenny and Westmeath.

2.5 hours from Meath to Carlow?

What were they driving, a wheelbarrow?

You can get from Dublin to Limerick in less then 2.5 hours these days

Moo moo. There are three lads on the Dublin panel from outside the county. All living and working here. About the same or perhaps even less than yourselves. Perhaps you just import the bad ones :-)

Well I was talking to a fellah from Oldcastle (which admittedly is on the Meath/Cavan border) and it took him 2 hours 20 minutes to get to Carlow.
Greenwood that is a long outstanding issue with Carlow re toilet facilities, when they did the place up I dont know how they didnt spend a few more bob on them.

Was in Clones yesterday for Mon v Antrim game. 25 Euro into uncovered "Mc Grane Stand" was very steep. If you had to bring a family with you this would be a very expensive day out.

Please will someone in Ulster Council show a bit of common sense and make prices lower so we can all enjoy our national games ?

There will be 1 less in Tullamore on Saturday and Croke Park on Sunday since the GAA couldnt put both our hurlers and footballers on together, the TV will do. If they had put them both on together I would have went.

That's exactly why the TV companies pay for the rights to show games, to keep people at home watching them.

it does seem stupid that they didnt fix wexford v longford in football for saturday at 5pm before the wexford v offaly hurling match as a double header
and play the dublin v laois hurling before the dublin v louth football as a double header.
but hey what can you do i have my tickets for saturday and sunday

But the GAA are the first ones complaining about falling attendances, and when they have the chance to make 2 attractive double headers for Wexford/Dublin they dont do it. There would be a big crowd from Wexford if both were played together.
Likewise for the Dubs,as hill16no1man says, why not play hurlers before the footballers. Now if there were home/away considerations to be made I could understand, but both Wexford/Longford and Dublin/Laois are played at neutral venues,a massive promotional opportunity has been missed.
But we all know the GAA think of the supporter last....
