Minor Football Championship

There were some unsets in the minor football championship over the weekend, with Meath, Kerry and Mayo defeating more fancied opposition. The structure seems to be unbalanced, though: Kerry, for example, are now in the semi-final having already lost two games whereas Tipperary, Tyrone and Roscommon are now gone after one defeat. Any suggestions on how to make the system fairer?

Get rid of the Quarter Finals, provincial Teams straight to semis, most or all Minor Provincial championships are run on a loser group basis anyway so all teams get more than one chance,Kerry have lost to Tipp twice this year and they are in the semis, says it all! Well done to Mayo though, back to the small ball for Tipp and hopefully the 4 teams left in can win a few national titles.

Use leinster format where only beat provincial finalists get second chance. The format in Munster makes a mockery if those in favour of champions league style comp at senior level

Tyrone lost that game last night in the second half by missing to many scoring chances. Young Mark Bradley had a fantastic game again in the corner kicking 6 points from play but to many big players for tyrone didnt perform on the night. But looks like dublins title to lose now with tyrone and tipperary out.

The minor system should be scraped and follow the same structure as the under 21s with only the provincial winners progressing to the semi finals.

Cracking game in Newry last night both teams give it a good rattle , I agree Tyrone missed some gilt edge chances in the second half especially when going a point up with a couple of minutes to go , I thought the Ref was poor last night give Meath some soft frees and failed to send off a Meath lad in the closing stages when he cynically brought down the Tyrone attack on the edge of the square he also failed to add on time on the 3 minutes of injury time when there was a lengthy stoppage and blew up with 10 seconds let on the stoppage time .. Gutted for the young red hands and although beaten the future of Tyrone is going to be another golden era !!! Best of Luck Meath in the semi final hope you's can go all the way ............................................

Not sure how we lost that game i guess the shooting was left at home. We created enough chances to win two or three games in the opening 15mins it could/should have been 3-2 to 0-2 but that's life it sometimes happen's in sport. On yesterdays evidence it's hard to see Kerry pulling off another shock as Dublin won't be as wasteful as us and i would fancy our neighbours to reach the final now. IMO only Leinster is stronger than Connacht at Minor level at moment.

Great heart and passion showed by the young Meath lads last night. Great to see them bouncing back from the leinster final. That Croke Park experience will stand to them well for the next day.

I know the minor semi's are pre-defined at the start of the year BUT surly some joined up thinking from the GAA and paired the Mayo minors with the seniors. Now some Mayo fans will have to travel to Croke Park two weekends in a row. The GAA should be taking into account that most fans can not afford this.

If it was to be changed then the Dublin teams would be playing on different days. Mayo fans should be given discount tickets.

No it should be changed so Mayo should have both games on the one day. Its not that big a deal for the dubs to have the minor and senior games on different days when costs of travelling to games is brought into the discussion. Discount tickets isnt enough of a dealbreaker more should be given to mayo fans

I agree however it's Dublin and they more or less make the rules in GAA.
