I can assure you that Joe Brolly never pulled on a Tyrone jersey in his life.

Beg to differ..he did actually play some football in Tyrone. His mother is from Coalisland and he did played some football around East Tyrone.

I don't have much time for Joe Brolly, so sticking to what he said; as opposed to who/what/were he is from which is totally irrelevant; he is spot on in what he said and the diving culprits need to be ridiculed.

Brend ..rather than nit-picking I'm trying to get to the kernel of it.
I think Joe actually played some challenge games for a Tyrone club and in Freudian style I'm considering whether his childhood caused him some trauma which manifests itself in this irrational "She loves me, she loves me not" scenario.

Just read this piece today in Gaelic Life and I have to say that I agree with every word of it. Brolly is not everyone's cup of tea, of course, and is certainly no stranger to a bit of stirring for mischief's sake but he is quick-witted, articulate and highly entertaining and his piece is always the first thing I read in Gaelic Life. As regards the issue of diving, I do also wonder if recent trends in refereeing have encouraged the growth of this disease; when even innocuous fouls result in a yellow card, there is an inherent reward for feigning or exaggerating injury. Not for one instance am I advocating any sort of impunity for malevolent or violent acts on a football field since we all want to see skilful players protected from thuggery, but there has to be a balance. I do wonder if the assessment system for referees is partly to blame here, as it seems that nowadays those who brandish the most cards per game are viewed as being 'strong referees','who will not tolerate indiscipline' and so forth. From what I see of it, however, some of these officials are often too busy issuing cards for next to nothing to differentiate between genuine attempts to win the ball and intentional, cynical fouling.

Ref got it wrong but to slate colm over that is petty! Brolly who i like is trying to sell a story here!! Really ? Poor Gregory was so distraught about his sending off he gave up playin. Nope Brian McGuigan was a little genius. Gregory wasn't a bad player but not a great player as Eamon Dunphy would say.Maybe that was his pinnacle touched by greatness you might say.
