Christy Ring Cup

Still all to play for. Kildare & Derry are still capable of winning the Ring. Very happy with Down's performances thus far in the Ring after the poor league performance. Monan is doing a great job bring the young lads through the ranks.

Wicklow are going to be tough to beat in this year's Christy Ring especially with them playing at home in the semi final. Wicklow look to be hot favourites especially with Kerry gone.

Sponger I believe we can play Derry yet again in the Semis!! It's a farce at this stage. We've played them 6 times in 14 months. Four wins and 2 draws.

Last year we beat them in the 2nd Round - Derry won their Quarter-Final v Kildare and low and behold we played them again down in Aughrim. Open Draw again I think this year as well.

I'm a little confused. The Ring is a great competition, but it's loosing it value a little because last year's winners Kerry never moved up and no one moved down from the Liam McCarthy. What was the real motivation for Kerry this year to win the competition? There needs to be one up one down system to keep the value of the competition. You have to put ur money on Wicklow, but keep an eye on the Lillywhites. Hope the Gaa put the final in Thurles/Croke before a big Hurling championship game.

Doubletree - Kerry opted to stayed in the Ring Competition. Their choice, John Meyler felt another year in the Ring would do them good.

kerry would have been better off getting hammered in the munster championship this year, why didn't they go up?

the christy ring comp was a great idea and benefited carlow, but as we seen with kerry last year, where do you go after winning it. carlow and wesmeath are lucky in that they would be hoping to draw each other or laois or possibly antrim or possibly wexford but after that they wouldn't get within 15 points of the next team. i would like to see a new secondary comp with carlow westmeath laois kerry antrim and possibly wexford or offaly, with the winners entering the allireland proper.

Last year it was Kildare who bet Derry in the Quarters and then Wicklow bet them in the Semis in Aughrim.

Also not sure why people think Kerry should be up to the Liam McCarthy so soon. They have not dominated the Christy Ring like Carlow and Westmeath have in recent years. They've had a poor league this year where they lost to Carlow, Westmeath and Derry. Now in the last two weeks they have lost both Ring cup matches and are now out. You can bet the likes of Carlow and Westmeath would not let this happen.

There really needs to be some kind of change to the Christy Ring Cup. If you look at it kerry probally peaked in 2010 when they lost the Christy Ring final to Westmeath by a point in a cracking game. With Westmeath and Carlow gone out of it the standard of the competition dropped and Kerry won the final handy enough last year though they barely scrapped past Down in the semi final. A team should be coming down every year to keep the standard up untill the GAA let the winners into the qualifiers teams wont know if there ready or not, teams like Kerry really could do with it, in reality Westmeath and Carlow have it that be easier when they went up becuase they knew they had teams in and around the same level as then, the likes of Laois, Antrim etc wile Kerry would be playing the likes of Cork, Tipp etc

To win it again? Doesn't seem to be any lack of motivation for kilkenny to win Mc Carthy again even though they won it last year

Surprised at Kerry I have to say. I know they are missing Egan and one or two others but they appear to have gone backwards this year. There is definitely a bit of a hoodoo attached to winning the Ring Cup. Westmeath went spectacularly back after and Kerry seem to be going same way. Perhaps there is an element of not having anywhere to go really afterwards? I know there is a difference in that Westmeath were not allowed go up whereas Kerry opted to stay in the competition. May have been wrong decision. Also O'Dwyer does not seem to have brought anything much extra to them.

Disappointing devastating loss. Congrats to the victors though, just not meant to be our year. Not to go on like a broken record, the only disappointment I can express is not being able to have a crack at the qualifiers having won the CR last year. It really is something which should be looked into. It seems easy to implement and would give any CR winner a big day. Do well they might take promotion, if not, plod along where they are.

Thats a huge loss to Kerry. Id say he is a guy that wouldexpect nothing less than 100% from his players and when he did'nt get it.........

He will be back.
