Surprised at Kerry kerryluck. Made nice few bob off them last year. A few key players like Johnny Egan missing?

I was surprised that the GAA didn't give the Ring Champions a run out inthe qualifiers last year- that would be just reward for winning the competition. The Ring is completed way early anyway and would run conveniently into the Championship Qualfiers. A lot of big results yesterday, but the Ring is still wide open.

It's not surprising though to be fair, as it would be doing the right thing.

They should put the cr winner into the qualifiers it would be a weaker counties best chance to create an upset as they would have a nice bit of hurling played while the bigger counties would be just starting their campaigns, I think there would definitely be an upset or 2. All ot would do is promote hurling even more in the said county, hopefully they will change this soon

Next Round of Christy Ring Matches

Winners Section

Wicklow v Derry (Can't seem to avoid each other!!)
Down v Meath (Same as last year I think)

Losers Section

Kildare v Kerry (Hoping Kildare can put the champs out here)
London v Mayo (Remember to get your flight this time Mayo!!)

Predictions - All games to be very very close - (The biggest margin of victory in Round 1 was 5 points, London and Kildare lost by 1 each and Mayo lost by 2 - The Christy Ring isprobably the most evenly matched of any GAA Tournament - football or hurling!!)

Wicklow and Down to advance - each to win by 1-3 points - (Think they advance to the Semis??)

Kildare to shock Kerry (I'm hoping anyway)
London to advance V Mayo.

So Kildare, London, Derry and Meath to go into the hat to play each other in the next round, Mayo and Kerry to exit the competition. Kildare are well capable of this.

Antrimfella - I know what you mean - but home advantage should see them through to the next round anyway. It will be very tight.

It's a tough position to be in, losing the first game. The winners rightly have the advantage of being guaranteed two more games while us defeated sides face elimination.

Correct antrimfella, but there's a Newry Shammrock's clubman by the name of Paul Sheehan who's starting for the county this year and doing a real good job. Wicklowman, why is Wicklow not playing their home games at the fortress O'Byrne Park in Aughrim?

Portavogielad - A few reasons for the Arklow selection - Wicklow County hurling matches are usually played in Arklow - the odd time a double header is played with the footballers in Aughrim - though our county final will always be played in Aughrim. Arklow is a much better pitch for hurling than Aughrim, much quicker surface - usually better maintained also. If I was a hurler from another county I'd prefer to play in Arklow than Aughrim. They are only 10 minutes apart and there is a much better road to Arklow than Aughrim - some counties especially the northern counties seem to think we are taking them to Arklow to make the journey for them to be as long as possible - this is not the truth in reality though. Further south yes! but quicker to get to because of the better road to it.

1170271 Predictions - I see wins for Derry, Meath, Kildare and Mayo.. Thoughts.

I'd go the opposite - Cill Mhantáin, An Dún, Ciarraí agus Londain.

That's the beauty of the Ring as it's too close to call at times.

That's the good thing about these competitions & the new league format - everyone is in with a shout. Hurling is a higher scoring game than football which is one reason why there's often such a gap between the different tiers. I often seen 2 fairly evenly matched teams finish with a dozen or more points between them.

Doubletree - You always go against Wicklow - keep 'em coming and we'll keep winning (hopefully!!)

The Ring Cup is the most evenly matched of any GAA Tournament - really want Kildare to knock Kerry out!!

Suprised so many people are tipping kildare v kerry. I think kerry will win this one.

Wicklow to beat derry, down at home to beat meath and london at home to win.
