I was surprised that the GAA didn't give the Ring Champions a run out inthe qualifiers last year- that would be just reward for winning the competition. The Ring is completed way early anyway and would run conveniently into the Championship Qualfiers. A lot of big results yesterday, but the Ring is still wide open. mournegael (Down) - Posts: 156 - 06/05/2012 19:29:49 1166884 Link 0 |

They should put the cr winner into the qualifiers it would be a weaker counties best chance to create an upset as they would have a nice bit of hurling played while the bigger counties would be just starting their campaigns, I think there would definitely be an upset or 2. All ot would do is promote hurling even more in the said county, hopefully they will change this soon tipptothetop (Tipperary) - Posts: 531 - 06/05/2012 20:02:42 1166911 Link 0 |

Antrimfella - I know what you mean - but home advantage should see them through to the next round anyway. It will be very tight. Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1142 - 07/05/2012 10:41:58 1167107 Link 0 |
It's a tough position to be in, losing the first game. The winners rightly have the advantage of being guaranteed two more games while us defeated sides face elimination. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8781 - 07/05/2012 19:44:54 1167422 Link 0 |
but down are playing their home games in pairc esler(outside of downs main hurling stronghold) rather than the ards antrimfella (Down) - Posts: 67 - 08/05/2012 15:49:49 1167926 Link 0 |
Correct antrimfella, but there's a Newry Shammrock's clubman by the name of Paul Sheehan who's starting for the county this year and doing a real good job. Wicklowman, why is Wicklow not playing their home games at the fortress O'Byrne Park in Aughrim? portavogielad (Down) - Posts: 446 - 08/05/2012 17:47:47 1168038 Link 0 |
Portavogielad - A few reasons for the Arklow selection - Wicklow County hurling matches are usually played in Arklow - the odd time a double header is played with the footballers in Aughrim - though our county final will always be played in Aughrim. Arklow is a much better pitch for hurling than Aughrim, much quicker surface - usually better maintained also. If I was a hurler from another county I'd prefer to play in Arklow than Aughrim. They are only 10 minutes apart and there is a much better road to Arklow than Aughrim - some counties especially the northern counties seem to think we are taking them to Arklow to make the journey for them to be as long as possible - this is not the truth in reality though. Further south yes! but quicker to get to because of the better road to it. Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1142 - 08/05/2012 20:54:19 1168208 Link 0 |
i see i see but surely you would prefer to play where you are going to get the most support? antrimfella (Down) - Posts: 67 - 09/05/2012 09:58:50 1168322 Link 0 |

That's the beauty of the Ring as it's too close to call at times. portavogielad (Down) - Posts: 446 - 11/05/2012 18:37:29 1170345 Link 0 |
That's the good thing about these competitions & the new league format - everyone is in with a shout. Hurling is a higher scoring game than football which is one reason why there's often such a gap between the different tiers. I often seen 2 fairly evenly matched teams finish with a dozen or more points between them. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 11/05/2012 20:26:44 1170401 Link 0 |
Doubletree - You always go against Wicklow - keep 'em coming and we'll keep winning (hopefully!!) Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1142 - 11/05/2012 21:37:20 1170442 Link 0 |
