Marty Morrissey constantly refers to "the far over side", as in "it's dropping away way over there on the far over side". Does this fella speak English? It's "the far side", or if you like, "the opposite side".

Ger Canning - "very industrious", "showing great industry" etc

Cyril Farrell - "as such" three times in every sentence.

Paddy Finnucane on Tipp FM is another local radio legend:

Paddy: "I'd say we must be nearly at half-time, Tom".
Tom "June over seventeen minutes gone, Paddy".

The use of the phrase "great link up play". Don't all team sports ultimately involve players "linking up"?

When you think about it, beyond the need to know who's just got the ball and who's about to come on as a sub, in a way the whole idea of commentary is almost absurd. A guy narrating what's happening even though you're watching it happen.

From a now very famous South East radio commentator and it goes as follows............. "...And it's a lineball for Wexford. There's a break in play now while Seán Flood receives some attention....... And while there is I'd just like to offer my sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the sad passing of Theresa last weekend.... She was a loving wife and mother and all were fond of her in the community...... Herself and her husband were always involved in the local scene and especially the GAA.......Theresa always gave her time up for others and I still remember the time when I met.....GOOOAAAALLLL!!! A GOAL FOR WEXFORD!!!!" (",)

A cliché usually heard from Wexford posters on this board:

"Nobody is giving us any credit for getting to the All-Ireland Semis"

Also heard from Wexford posters:

"Joe Brolly and Colm O'Rourke don't say very nice things about us on RTE"
