Supporter in Offaly Jersey

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hi all, was just watching the game in Newry today when I saw a man behind the goals in an Offaly jersey, have seen what I presume to be the same person popping up at numerous random grounds throughout the country always behind one of the goals, such as the Connacht final last year and of course have seen him at Tullamore etc. Can anyone shed anymore light on this die hard fan?

Maybe its not the same person. Maybe its some of the 275 people that have bought Seamus Darby's 1982 AI final Jersey and football boot at charity GAA auctions.

Was at the match and spotted him behind the goals as we were passing him. Was wondering if he got lost or something. All on his lonesome he was too.

And who could blame him attending other county's grounds when his own beloved Offaly footballers are a disaster.

Didn't notice him this time but I think I've seen him before a few times in Portlaoise. Maybe on his way home from Offaly's match in Casement Park?

Thats "liffo". He usually shows up at Westmeath games wearing the opposition jersey but no point going to Mullingar yesterday as he would have to wear maroon. He's ironing his Tyrone jersey for Healy park next Saturday night as you read and will be in Carlow Wednesday night too. Just give him a hug when you see him and tell him division 4 next year wont be so bad as you cant get relagated and you get to hammer KK.

Mick seems to pop up at every match around Leinster and beyond. Anytime there's a match in O'Connor Park (including those not involving Offaly) he'll be there, same position behind the goal each time. The man is just a die hard GAA fan, lives for hurling and football, and could easily name the All Ireland finalists from any of the last 30 odd years were you to ask him. Bit like the John 3-7 guy only not a religious nut...

Fair play to him, gets around to a serious amount of matches each year, and always willing to talk about anything GAA related to anybody. Hates Westmeath with a passion too...

With the expoure he gets Carroll Meats or Cuisine would be nearly better off sponsoring him instead of the Offaly teams.

He's not to be confused with the guy in the Offaly jersey who used to be a regular at Wimbledon or the chap who appeared in the background of a Snoop Dogg video a few years ago either.

He was definatly at the Antrim V Offaly game on saturday night. He was standing all alone as usual behind one of the goals whilst every other person at the game was in the main stand

I'm intrigued.... can't say I have noticed him before but will certainly keep an eye out for him from here on - what is his name and why the intense dislike of Westmeath??

Fair play to him though for his devotion the game.

Not sure why the Offaly lads dont like us Redd. The border area between the two counties are the traditional football areas for both counties, so the hurling folk of South Offaly are a different breed to their cousins in the North of the county. A lot of North Offaly people come to Westmeath schools for their education and we also have running water. Why they leave with a bad taste in their mouths is anyones guess. We give them the odd footballer too and they give us the odd manager in both codes. I think deep down they love us but often you would have to wonder, where is the love?

The distinctive Offaly jersey clad supporter was behind the goal yesterday in Mullingar. Im sure he was delighted for his neighbours :).

In fairness you have to admire his dedication.
