How's the hurling going this year?? Haven't heard anything about a title push from the Mighty Twin Towns men?

Setanta again this year or the Auld boys from Burt?

Good to hear from the helicoptor. Always shows an interest in the state of donegal hurling. As for predictions..... the mighty twin town hurlers were again blowing their horns about what they were going to do in this years championships and while they do indeed have some good young hurlers they have too many hackers who simply arent up for the fight. The old dogs for the hard road..... so once again its a battle of the ould enemy, Burt and Setanta. I would predict a narrow Setanta victory as they seem to be strong in most areas and have successfully blooded a number of skillful youngsters this year. Their youth policy is definitely paying dividends with their U14s winning the Feile in Offaly and the club back-boning the very good U21 panel who travel to London this week for their all ireland 1/4 final. The futures bright, the futures black and green.

Norman - No cash down sir, don't think I'd be getting the 2/1 I got on Setanta about 20mins from the throw in last year!!

Neo - The black and green jersey is always close to hand. Didn't hear about the feile win, I remember going to Rhode for the feile, jeasus must have been 87/88 I think. We got hammered every game. The progress has been great indeed.

Who's the U21 manager taking the lads to London?

Best of luck to all hurlers out there, remember to smile while your swinging.....

We should keep this thread going with any hurning news.

WEAK - Your telling me thats a good result. A waste of the players\management and county club funds. A game like that will do no one no good. Neither Donegal cause they won or london who were hammered. Its not a fair match up when there is that big a score line..if it was a boxing match it would be blown up after 5 minutes...

Lads the sad fact is the standard we are at is the reason were playing the bad teams. we need to improve to get outta this muck

Jeasus , bit harsh there Norman.

County Board have loads of money to spend, always have had. A great trip and experience for the lads who went I'm sure.

I'd say they learned as much by hammering London as they would by being hammered by a quality Kilkenny side.

U21 is around the time when lads usually decide to continue playing or not, due to college, work, drink or women etc.

Sure if wee bonuses like a trip away makes them feel wanted for another few years, great. Hope they all had a great time and continue to play on for many a year.

What about all the U16 & minor lads who didn't get to go. Loads of them will be trying to improve in case a chance like that arises again.

I remember the time 10-14 years ago when we would pick up lads for county games just because they owned a hurl. Thankfully that's not the case now.

As usual the hurling championship will be run out over the next two weeks. Watched both Burt and Setanta recently and have to say Setanta look much stronger but in a final anything can happen. Honestly see McCools as serious contenders and maybe we will get an all finn valley final...... wooden that be class!! Setanta travelling to the Kilmacuds this weekend with a strong panel and i think they stand a very good chance of taking a second all ireland title back to the cross this year. Have excellent athletes in marty bonner, damien browne, warren scanlon and michael mc gee, have great score takers in kevin campbell and danny cullen, and have enforcers there like ger dwyer and mucker to look out for the young fellas. In ryan scanlon they also have an experienced keeper who can read the play and feed good quality ball to a very good forward line. Everything you need for a good 7s competition. Have also been watching the underage scene at the cross and it is without the healthiest in the county. In richie kee and brendan tourish they have two excellent senior certs but the two i really cant wait to see at senior level are the gallen twins, hard as nails and dripping in skill. The futures bright, the futures black and green!!!!

Helicoptor, just to keep you updated, Setanta were beaten in the Kilmacuds at the weekend by two points. On the way to the final they met Burt in the semis and beat them by a comfortable 9 or 10 points. Both teams travelled to Dublin with strong squads but Setanta just seem to possess too many scoring threats and appear to have taken over the mantle as Donegals number one hurling team. McCools also travelled but with an understrength squad and didnt really feature. As far as i know the championship semis are scheduled for this weekend with Setanta due to face McCools and Burt against Ballyshannon. I think McCools will give Setanta a good game but it must surely be another Burt / Setanta final. The killygordon ladies are also in the final of the camogie against Carndonagh so it could be a great year at the Cross.

Watched the mc cool / setanta semi final and was dismayed before the match to see that an inishowen referee was taking charge. My concern was fully justified 6 minutes ( yes thats correct 6 minutes) into the 8 minutes of injury time played when the man in question dismissed a setanta player for ....... well i really dont know what for. This now leaves setanta without the services of one of their most influential players for the final against burt, another inishowen team. Given some of the rough house tactics of the mc cool back line on the likes of young magee which apparrently was not seen by the ref but easily seen by every spectator his decision was all the more suprising. With the large affiliation fees the county board charge these hurling teams and the lack of respect shown by the county board to the competition in playing it over the space of a fortnight, surely a -----. Later that day watched the camogee final and again was subjected to what can at best be described as some parochial affairs. Is the problem endemic in donegal hurling and camogee circles. Its not a case of sour grapes its a case of fair play. Cmon setanta and bring on burt.

setanta player struck mccools player in chest with hurl, dirty stroke. same player has a habit of getting sent off for club and county. poor enough game if mccools had a better keeper they could have won, 4 very soft goals
