Football in Kilkenny - Is there any point?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kilkenny are a disgrace, there's no other word for it. The way they treat the one true sport of the GAA is shocking and the need to punished heavily. To effectively give up on football in order to pick up cheap and meaningless Hurling All-Ireland's goes against everything the GAA stands for. Shame on them

They have no excuse, every county in Ireland is well well above them when it comes to Gaelic Football. Its different in hurling as there are many farcical teams.

Sort it out Kilkenny, you are embarrassing yourselves.

There is no point in having football in kilkenny!
Some hurl some kick, some do both, big deal!

Kilkenny football is like hurling in Mayo. Neither have any future and amount to a huge waste of resources

Looks like the way forward for Kilkenny is to do what all the football counties do in the hurling, not bother to put a team out at senior level and play against intermediate and junior counties

now come on, kilkennys second point today was a fantastic score. Arguably the best point of the day. So all hope is not lost. Give the cats time to come good. I dont see any of yous preaching about kerry or tyrone hurlers?

You can leave the Kerry hurlers out of it, Kerry play and promote Hurley, KK are like all single code GAA clubs - half hearted.

Hurling is not popular in Tyrone, the vast majority of us have no
interest in it, (in fact it could be seen as a waste of resources!)
Im sure many Kilkenny supporters feel the same,
only the other way around!

You can't compare the two situations. Many county boards, mine included, treat Hurling with the disdain it deserves. It's only played in a handful of counties, it requires no skill, it's dying all over Ireland. Football on the other hand is thriving and deserves to be treated with respect. Kilkenny don't show it this respect and are the laughing stock of the GAA

Sad to see and with a few teams pushing for promotion every team is viewing KK as a vital game to rack up scoring difference which could be a decisive factor in promotion. They seem to be falling further back. Had a reasonable campaign a few years back even managed to beat London in one game at the end of the year but the trouncings in the last 2 years have been embarrassing. In hurling teams can be miles off the pace but still get games against teams of a pretty much similar standard but Kilkenny are so far behind everyone (bar maybe Galway on todays result) that its hard to keep going. The fact the u21 team was thrown together with such haste suggests there is no plan to get things right either.

I'd love to know do Kilkenny supporters even reach double figures for home games (genuine question)?

I presume they are well outnumbered by away supporters more often than not?

Do Kilkenny have anyone on the bench for these games? In the case of a couple of injuries do they play with 13/14 men?

You'd hate to see KK withdraw again but really how did today benefit KK or help Fermanagh prepare for the Ulster Championship.

No there isnt any point. Not if you're winning 5 of the last 6 Liam McCarthy's anyhow. Big deal re their footballers. The answer is to just enter a junior team and maybe re-enter the O Byrne cup to accommodate lads wishing to play football. Simples and good luck to them

Hurling requires no skill. Good man yourself, trying to spark a hurling v football row. You might try watching KK v Tipp once in a while.

they deserve to play if they want too.... why shouldnt they so what if their been beat every game the players must want to play for their county and dont participate in championship so they play diivision 4 of the league to give the players the chance to play against other teams.... ppl who are calling them a disgrace when its nothing to do with them..... i dont see a thread on the hurling teams of yere own counties slating them???

Funny how Kilkenny are a disgrace, I remember Tyrone hurlers coming to London a couple of years ago and the score was 7-21 to 0-06 and London are hardly the powerhouses of hurling.

How can you punish Kilkenny "heavily" for not been good at something? That's like punishing a chld because they can't do their homework. They need to be given the chance to learn.

How people can also say their is no skill in hurling is unbelievable, pure ignorance towards hurling and then they try to condem Kilkenny. Cork and Donegal did wonders for promoting football at the weekend. It was so bad it was hard to watch the so called "highlights". 1-7 to 0-06 the final score. Pure muck teams will be settling for a nil nil draw soon the way football is going.
