Revenue and Referee payments

It is income. Small income. Chasing this in the context of paying over billions to Anglo Irish bondholders is not only absurd but immoral. Mark my words, every aspect of this country's life is going to be destroyed in order to attempt to pay for an incompetent corrupt bankrupt elite. And I say 'attempt' because it is actually impossible to pay back. But sure if they destroy the GAA as part of it none of the scum is going to lose any sleep over that.

But revenue won't make any money out of the new system anyway. At least when a ref is getting 40 quid it's being pumped back into the economy in most cases.

Couldnt agree more.
Reading these pathetic comments of "oh, its income, taxes have to be paid" is making me sick. This Kelf lad especially - youd want to have a long hard look at yourself son.
This is the same attitude we see from the clowns that have voluntarily registered for the household charge. Turkeys voting for christmas.

Disgusting to the rotten core to watch these targeting our great organisation.

Alot of the expense is dictated by each individual county. In Meath you only get €20 to do a league match if you have no officials with you and the cost goes upward to €35 depending on the number of umpires you bring with you. In one senior club I know the manager gets €100 per night for training the team which on average will cost the club €250 per week. Add that up over a 36 to 40 week period and it adds up to between €9000 and €10000 so lets not jump on the ref who gets €20 or €25 on avaerage to ref games.

No need to be so harsh on KELF, he is right to a small extent but is nowhere near a proper solution as his argument has several big flaws. No need for the "you want to have a hard look at yourself"

At the end of the day the refs hold all the aces. The organisation needsa them more than they need the organisation. Christy Cooney should remember this as well. Who'd begrudge a lad a few quid for a few pints after a high pressure game?

As a former referee I can say for sure that most refs dont make very much money from refereeing!

Well they shouldn't be making any money at all! Honest to God the GAA must be the most contradictory organisation in the world. How can we say we are an amateur organisation, oh but we do pay referees for their time! They should get nothing but thanks

Whiterbananas,

I'm sure you will offer your time up for nothing if all of the refs go on strike? And your already and expert so no need for any training on your part.

Well i could do a better job than 90% of the refs out there that's for sure. And is offering your time up for nothing not what the GAA is all about? Or does everyone get paid for their services? I mean it's either one or the other........

A few seem to think I favor taxing Refs. I dont. I merely point out that it is the legal duty of Revenue to collect tax on income and if the refs want to make a song & dance in the media about not being paid enough its just drawing attention to themselves. Quietly in the background !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I would do it no bother. And if i was a referee i certainly wouldn't ask to be PAID for it in an amateur association because i am a true GAA man who does things for the love of the game

Another county going to impose taxing?

Why would any ref wantto give their PPS number for doing a bit of reffing?

This all seems to be dying down. Pure lip service from the GAA on it.
