1108446 Well when the ladies finals end in bother, The mens finals end in bother and then the All Ireland semi finals end in bother its becoming more and more popular in Tyrone club games., I think it was about time that the GAA acted

The GAA dont have jurisdiction over ladies football, it's a seperate organisation.

This is not a ban - they will have been promoted to Inter so realistically have zero chance of competing outside of Tyrone for 5 years, the equivalent of banning Norwich from competing in the Champions League for 5 years

Another case of the GAA pretending to tackle a serious problem, really doing so would be far too much effort

RE: bad.monkey

Your argument is totally illogical and complete nonsense. Yes it is unlikely that Derrytresk will win Intermediate championship. However, the likelyhood of them getting relegated at some point within the next five years is very high, possibly even this year. Therefore they could potentially have 4 years competing again for junior championship honours in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 where they have shown they are more than capable of winning and should they win, they would not be allowed to compete beyond Tyrone.

Your comparison with Norwich laks credibility, in fact to put it bluntly it's a load of rubbish. Also consider the following:

What of all the other teams that have been involved in similar fracas over the years and never met such punishment, why not?
When did this rule come in or rather does it even exist?
Following on from that, are Derrytresk being made an example of by the GAA to make a point (it's very easy for the hobnobs sitting up in Croke Park to target a small unheard of club)?
Do the GAA just make the rules up as they go along and implement them as they please?
Also does this apply to county sides aswell, eg Louth v Meath game of 2 years ago, if similar scenario where to happen to any county this year do the GAA ban them from Intercounty football for 5 years?

The GAA really need to consider where they are going with this before things spiral out of control, they are digging a hole for themselves.

RHD you didnt tell the other people from other counties to keep out so therefore my opinion is valid, And I know ladies is another organisation but it is just an example of the thuggery that exists in Tyrone football in all senior codes. Dont worry RHD I dont need cups to make me happy. As long as I see the club doing ok I'm grand. Club Before county.

If people commit the crime they will just have to serve the time. No point crying now about it. Should have thought about all this when they were dishing out the punches etc.

Re: Orlaith, Derry

What a load of waffle, Tyrone are no different to any other county. This needs eradicated from our game in all counties, including your own. To point fingers the way you have strikes of ignorance and hypocricy.

I recall a mass brawl involving Ballinderry in the ulster championship 4 years ago. The Derry senior championship semi final between Glenullin and Loup ended in a mass brawl 3 years ago. Also the senior championship match last season between Ballinderry and Kilrea resulted in a mass brawl with 6 red cards dished out. That's just to name a few, I could go on but I've made my point.

I don't like singling out clubs or counties but for people to come on here ranting and raving about issues in Tyrone is pathetic. Take a look closer to home them problem is everywhere. You're in no position to come on here shouting the odds with your biased opinions Orlaith.

5 years is very harsh and I agree with Lios Tuathail, consistency is what we require from the GAA / CCCC.
Regarding Derrytresh playing in intermediate is irrelevant as they could easily be demoted again within the 5 years and have a chance to go through the Junior route again?

Tyronists should be taking this as a wake-up call not making daft comments about Derry. theres a gouger element in the county that needs to be brought under control by the rest of ye. I remember the abuse the Great Mickey Harte received from his own fans a couple of years ago clearly.

Re: Orlaith, your only response is that you hope the bans get doubled. You have avoided the points in my last post. Clearly the issue here is that you hate all things Tyrone.

RE: Horse
'Tyronists should be taking this as a wake-up call not making daft comments about Derry' - What exactly is the wake up call that concerns only 'Tyronists' as you put it? Make no mistake this is a broadscale problem throughout the GAA. A user (who happens to hail from Derry) makes a point singling out incidents involving Tyrone clubs and points the finger. I responded by singling out incidents involving Derry clubs to show that there is no difference. Explain to me how this is daft, or is that too complicated for you.

I think this is a fantastic decision. Finally the GAA have indicated that they will deal harshly with the yob element in gaelic football.

To those who make the point that a whole community should not be responsible for the actions of a few, I disagree completely. If the club is not responsible for the actions of their members then who on earth IS responsible? It is the culture at club level that by inaction condones the type of yobbish behaviour that results in supporters feeling justified in attacking opposition players. If clubs regularly received bans because of the actions of their so-called supporters, then you can be sure that people within the club would be louder about telling the local mouths to shut up and stay shut up.

5 years is harsh, its along time, but I have no doubt that the derrytresk fans and subs who got themselves involved in the trouble are regretting it now, which i would be happy about. For the record,we have heard a lot of stories about how Derrytresk are a small club who have done brilliantly, but Clonbur are a small clu who have been ravaged by emigration and they have struggled to field underage teams in recent years, and alot of their players are living in far flung counties like Dublin and Meath so an all ireland victory would be a fantastic story for them too.

This whole suspension thing is a farce, and the Throners know it for what it is, whats to stop the suspended players playing under an assumed name in the Final, who is to know them.
